Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

Open Question

Simplicity Riding mower 14hp hydrostatic. PTO will not engage. no noise at all when I pull the switch. Looked underneath and it looked like the clutch was moving around with the pulley. Is it possible I'm missing a bolt or something there?

SOURCE: PTO will not engage blades on riding mower. The

Using a test light or volt meter, check to see if you are getting a full 12 volts at the connector where the PTO plugs in. If no voltage present, locate the fuse for the PTO and check it, also check the PTO switch to see if it is working. You can turn on the ignition switch to the run position, don't start the engine, and turn the PTO switch on and off several times listening for a clicking sound. If you hear it clicking, have someone sit in the seat and start up the engine, while it is running, observe the PTO clutch and see if it spins when turned on and if the belt turns with it. If none of this works, post a follow up and include your Craftsman Model number. I will look it up and see if I can find anything else we might be missing

is the belt very old? if so it is stretched and needs to be replaced. All belts with a heavy fabric woven around the belt averages a 5 year life span
If it is a simple rubber/nylon corded belt one year is its life span

D140 Belt won't engage. Replaced Switch. Still doesn't work. Any Suggestions?

does it have electric PTO ? if it does then you should be able to hear it click with ignition on and engaging pto switch if it does not then you have to look for a bad safety switch located under seat and brake pedal try unplugging pto clutch and putting 12 volts dc to one wire and grounding the other wire if it clicks its ok if it does not then safety switches are the probable cause witch is causing an open circuit.

Pto will not engage, problem in safety control. Where is brake switch and how do I test

many brake switches are under the mower, follow your brake rod that goes underneath the mower and look for a 2 wire plug, make sure when you step on the brake its pushing the button all the way in, to check that just pull the brake back with your hand while looking at the switch to make sure, and maybe its the pto switch itself. is the pto clicking when you pull the pto switch button in and out with the key on? if not then its loose connection behind the switch or get a new pto switch, its cheapish and solves the problem most of the time

What is the Function of the pto control

It is to supply power the electric clutch that drives the mower deck.
If not functioning then the switch, PTO clutch, or wiring is not working properly. Note on some ZTRs when both handles are in reverse then electric clutch is disengage for safety.

X595 john deere pto wont kick in

These John Deere Garden Tractors have a RIO (Reverse Implement Option) on the PTO. If your PTO is engaged and you back up, the PTO will automatically stop. To reset it, depress your PTO engagement switch to the OFF position. Take your foot off the reverse pedal. Pull up on the PTO engagement switch. The PTO should restart. To use the RIO feature, pull up on the PTO switch for a second or two just before you step on the reverse hydrostatic pedal. The yellow RIO indicator light should come on your dashboard and you can now back up with the PTO still running. Works great for snow blowing when I don't want to keep resetting my electric PTO clutch to keep restarting my snow blower.

If your PTO will not restart, you may have a PTO switch starting to fail, or a likely logic problem in your electric PTO control module, or one of your forward/reverse indicator switches, which is linked to your PTO control module along with the overtemp circuit, is stuck/faulty.

Blade will not engage but all saftey features works

With the pto switch pulled out check with a multi meter that you have a 12 volt supply the the clutch, pull the connector apart at the clutch end to do this, if there is no supply it is a switch or wireing issue, if there is a supply, you shouls have an audible click when the pto switch is pulled out, this is the elecro magnetic clutch engaging, if the click is present, check the belt from the clutch to the deck.

Mower will not engage when switch for electric electric clutch is pulled up into on position

could be safety switches faulty or sticking, usally 1 under seat, and 1 by the catcher, pto toggle switch maybe faulty, if battery is low there won't be enough power for the clutch to engage. I would jump the clutch to make sure that hasn't died first cause that is the costly part.

Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.
