More than likely. But to make sure: check that new battery is good (voltmeter). Check with ohmmeter across the battery contacts - should read few hundred ohms to few kiloohms. If OK, reinseret battery. Push ON button. Push reset button. If go, congrats. If not, get another caliper.

you might have some crud between the coded strip and the reader behind the display, or a chip trapped some where. try cleaning all the parts you can get to it with an alcohol prep pad. As a last resort Starrett will refurbish it for you. it isn't that cheap but it will be less than a new one. give them a call.

Brake Line Replacement on 1996 Olds Ciera


If you need to replace a brake line, you're going to have to bleed the line of air once you remove the broken one. I would highly suggest having an Autozone Tech. explain how to get that accomplished (they have always been very helpful to me).

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. I have changed the left rear caliper due to malfunction. My problem is that break fluid is leaking. What to do?


i`m guessing that the leak is coming from were the brake hose is fastened to the caliper,did you make sure that the surfaces were clean and free of dirt before re-installing the hose to the new caliper,also there should be a copper washer on each side of the brakes hose were the bolt goes through.check and make sure you have this and that there is not an old copper washer stuck to the caliper if you are using new copper washers supplied with the new caliper.they line will not seal if there is more than one washer installed

I had my sister in-laws new guiness who works at pep boys work on my wife's brakes. i need to know how to put the hose from the caliper back on and back on the brake line it self what do i do?


install the hose against the caliper as follows.take one copper washer install on bolt ,then take hose and install onto bolt ,and finally one more copper washer and install onto caliper.watch out for position of the hose it has to sit in a recess on the caliper which could be in a horizontal position to the caliper or a tab it might be sitting at.

Removing breaks from a 2000 Hyundai Accent


hi from uk the 17mm bolts you mention do not remove as these secure the caliper carrier and only need removing to facilitate disc/rotor renewal to remove caliper only if you check the rear of caliper you will see two 13mm blts top and bottom of caliper these bolts pass thro conveluted rubber boots into slide pins bolts screw into these pins and the caliper is what is known as floating caliper this means only one piston operation on caliper then caliper slides on pins tou operate both pads when brakes applied so remove the two bolts and the steel spring on front face of caliper ?(remember how it fits !) then caliper slides off the rotor leaving pads in place on the carrier you then prise out pads/wirebrush carrier points where new pads are to fit then push caliper piston back then refit caliper in reverse order ADVICE= before refitting caliper smear alittle copper grease on rear metal side of each pad this prevents squeeling of pads when braking also pull out the to pins mentioned above that fit into carrier top/bottom wipe clean and put /smear copper grease on these too then refit and push in till rubber boots reseat on the carrier lips ? when you have done both sides brakes bleed calipers this is a must ! and when you do you will see dirty fluid emmited on the fist couple of pumps on b/pedal then clean fluid ? this WILL improve b/pedal travel and more positive ? the dirty fluid is o/heated /burnt fluid which becomes compressable giving soft pedal when operated and is due to heat transfer from disc/pads over time and is conducted thro caliper piston to fluid that is why it is recommended you bleed/flush hydraulics at least 2year intervals hope the above helps you and understandable best wishes from uk

How to replace evaporator coil on rs267labp?


you will have to have soldering skill with a oxygen acetylene brazing torch.. first remove the coils either cutting the lines or aplying heat to the conection, they will come loose. then position the new coil and braze weld if its copper to copper use silver brazing if its steel to copper, or steel to steel you will have to use bronze rods.. however if the joint shall be aluminum to any other metal you will have to do some research on tha one .. hope to be of help...

Caliper removal

  1. Disconnect the brake hose.
  2. Remove the bolt.
  3. Disconnect the rear wheel brake hose (2A442).
  4. Remove the copper washers and plug the brake hose.

The guide pins are meant to be sealed for life and are not repairable. Use Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A (Motorcraft WA-10) or an equivalent silicone compound meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A for re-lubing the caliper slide pins. Other greases can swell the guide pin boots, resulting in contamination and accelerated corrosion or wear of the caliper slide pin mechanism.
    Remove the rear disc brake caliper (2552).
    1. Remove the brake caliper bolts (2W303).
    1. Lift the rear disc brake caliper off the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate (2C220).
  1. Inspect the rear disc brake caliper for leaks.
    • If leaks are found, disassembly is required. Refer to Caliper in this section.

Disc Removal and Installation
  1. NOTE: When removing the rear brake disc (2C026) in this procedure it is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic lines.

  1. NOTE: If the rear brake disc binds on the rear parking brake shoe and linings, remove the adjustment hole access plug and retract the parking brake shoe and lining.
    Remove the rear brake disc.
  1. s2r~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Use a hub-mount brake lathe if necessary to machine the rear brake disc. For additional information on machining brake discs, refer to Section 206-00 .

I just aquired a Starrett 721 digital caliper that wouldn't turn on. Took cover off and batteries were in reversed polarity. New batteries didn't help. Is the display fried?
