It is broken.
Spend $40, and buy a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer,
and install it as a replacement.

thx .. but how to I find a the right replacement?

Take the computer to the computer-store.
They will remove the side-panels, disconnect the data/power cables,
unscrew the mounting-screws, and slide it out.
Then, they will match-up the power/data sockets on the old drive
with the power/data sockets on the new drive.

Or, you could do the above removal, and then take the old drive to them, to get a "matching" replacement.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a cd in disk drive. The door will open but disk won't come out. What do I need to do to remove it?

The CD is loose in the drive. You need to remove the CD drive from the computer and then remove the metal case off the drive then you can remove the CD. Put the metal case back on the drive and install the CD drive back into the computer.

Cd player door won't open

cd/rw drive has shifted due to unit being bumped, Tray is binding or blocked. Remove the back panel. Remove 4 screws on the bottom holding cd drive. Now you can push the drive slightly back. On the left side of the drive there is a white nylon cam. Push in with a screwdriver and the tray will open so you can manually remove your cd. You should be able to cycle the tray open and closed now. Replace the four screws but cycle several times after tightening each screw. Replace the back.

Cd keeps coming back out

The loading mechanism should be replaced. It has gear wheel trouble. It will be best to replace the loader mechansim, as it won't cost more. OK.

Stuck key in on position, how to remove and replace cylinder

Before you do that. Try moving the shifter a few times from drive back to park. Sometimes these switches with the transmission won't allow you to return the cylinder to the complete neutral position if the park switch doesn't engage.

Cd door keeps onpening and closing

When this happens it is usually one thing, but could be two.

The most common reason is that the button you use to open and close is stuck in the IN position. Turn the PC off with the drive door held open. Using a paperclip try to get behind the push button and press it outwards.

Second most common problem, the switch the button activates is worn and has failed in the depressed position.

Fortunately, replacement CDROM/DVDROM are rather inexpensive, but you would need a technically savy friend or relative to help you or you can ask your friendly neighborhood computer guru to help. Or, lastly, you can take this into a shop for a replacement as the newer drive will be better and faster than what you have now.

As always, if you have any need for clarification or further questions please do not hesitate to comment back to me.

My disk drive

Under the drawer is a little latching metal clip - you can use a small screwdriver to gently operate the latch, it is probably just stuck in the open position.
