Question about Samsung HP-R5072 50 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

When the Samsung 50" plasma TV is turned on and during the whole time the TV is running there is one small green dot (or light) in around the middle of the screen. It continues and does not go away as the TV warms up. Is this going to be an ongoing problem? Is this something the warrenty should cover?

Still under warrenty?Yes,call the tv manufacture, get this tv replaced quickly. The Plasma screen is developing a burn in dead pixels. This problems, can't not be repair.Except replaced the Plasma screen itself. The plasma screen panel are 90% of the tvs,not worth repairing,if it damages or broken. Will cost the same as a new tv,if the screen require replacing.Still under warrenty call it in right away to get the picture screen replaced under warrenty.

HP-R5072 50 in. HDTV Plasma Television Samsung Plasma TV is snowy/dotted. When I turn it

Most likely it sounds like a Logic Board problem. The Logic Board is what controls images on the screen. It's a somewhat expensive part to replace. Maybe in the $200 range. Being that the part isn't cheap, best to have a TV tech come to your house to take a look at the TV to confirm the diagnoses before buying the replacement part.

The colours on the screen are very dark and run into each other

This is an older model plasma and could be as simple as a loose cable, make sure you check all inputs, if it does it on all inputs including the ant/cable inputs then it is either a bad signal board or a problem on the Y or X board. if something is loose (bad connection) on one of the boards I usually take the back off and stand the TV back up with the stand rebolted to it. with the TV on and a picture showing gently tap the boards one at a time to see if something is loose. The signal board is in the middle lower section and has the ant screw in on it. the Y is middle left, X middle right when facing the back of the set.
If nothing is loose, there are some adjustments on the Y board that can cause blotches, dots, shading, color distortion. If you want to try adjusting them make sure to mark each ones position with a sharpy. Turn each slightly to see the corrective effect then back till you find the middle spot where the picture looks normal.

Green spots/pixels at top of TV screen

I have a 50" Pioneer PDP-503MXE with the same problem - the fans don't run. It appears to be a problem with the temperature sensor that controls the fan speed. However, the fans can manually be switched to MAX.
To do this, put the display in standby. Press the 'Menu' button and within 3 seconds press the 'Power/Standby' button. The 'Integration Menu' will appear. Select the 'Option' tab on the right. Scroll down (next page) to the 'Fan Control' option. It will most likely be set to 'Auto'. Press 'Set' to change it to 'Max'. Within a few seconds the fans will run.
At Max the fans are a bit noisey but it will cool the unit down.

Red Dots

You can get rid of the red dots by adjusting the V-scan voltage down, it's on the panel sticker inside the unit, you can find the test point on the DC to DC pcb, and the adjustment pot is on the same board, lower it as you watch the screen and only lower it enough to rid the screen of the dots
