The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

How to change belt on sears vacuum cleaner

I believe you turn the vac over so the beater bar (brush) is facing up.
Depending on the age there maybe screws or tabs that hold the plate on to the bottom of the unit. Remove those and the plate. That should expose the bar, belt and motor pulley. If the beater bar doesn't pop out when the bottom plate is removed, pull it out and remove from belt. (Pay attention to how the bar was inserted. It may have a pentagonal shape and only fit properly when inserted a certain way.
Now is a good time to clean the beater bar.
Replace with correct size belt and reassemble in reverse order.

Hope this helps.
If so, please rate me.
Thanks,
Matt

How do yu change the belt

Hello. W/D here.
On the baseplate that surrounds the beater bar, you'll see three large plastic screw heads. Turn these and youll feel the plate loosen. Raise the plate from back to front; it hinges toward the front. This gives you access to the beater bar. Remove the beater bar, making mental note as to how it comes out. You want to pay attention to the ends so you can get it back in easily. Remove whatever remains of the old belt. While you have it opened this far, inspect the suction cavity behind the beater bar; this is where they are most likely to stop up over time. Also take a moment to inspect the beater bar and remove the things that tend to wind up on the bar and at the ends. Slip your new belt over the motor shaft, and then slip the beater back under the belt. It will be tighter going back with the new belt. While the belt is on the motor shaft and the beater bar, slide the beater bar back into the sockets of the vacuum, and replace the base plate.
That's all there is to it!

How do I change the belt on the motor?

Hi. This is easily done. Flip the vacuum over, beater bar up. With the machine unplugged, locate the screws or tabs that hold the base plate on, surrounding the beater bar. Remove the plate. The beater bar is held in place by fitting into sockets that then fit into the vacuum frame, so be careful in removing the beater bar. Pay close attention to the sockets, so you can get the bar assembly back in easily. Replace the belt. When you fit it over the motor shaft, you'll have to slip the belt onto the beater bar, and fit the bar into the frame at the same time. Reinstall the plate, and test your work by revolving the beater brush a bit by hand......If you're satisfied, you should be good to go!
Best regards, --W/D-- please feel free to rate this solution! Thanx!

Hoover U6476-910 - Very little suction from the bottom

If you haven't already, remove the beater bar. This is accomplished by unplugging the vacuum and turning it beater bar up. Remove the clips or screws that hold the plate on the beater bar and set aside. The beater bar sits in sockets, so carefully remove the bar, noting the correct position of the sockets. This will make reassembly much easier. Slip the beater bar out of the drive belt. Now, inspect the suction cavity that the beater bar would discharge into. Usually, things clog up here as there is a flex hose that catches things, creating a pluggage.
Hope this helps, --W/D--

Belt

Hi. This isn't a hard repair at all.... Unplug your vacuum. Turn the vacuum beater bar side up. Locate the catches or screws that hold the plate on that covers the beater bar. Remove the plate. The beater bar sits in sockets where it attaches to the vacuum, so remove carefully, making note how it comes out. This will make reassembly much easier. Place your new belt on the motor shaft, then onto the beater bar while you replace the beater bar back into the sockets. Test your work by revolving the beater bar a bit by hand. Reinstall the cover plate. That's it!

HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE BELT ON A DIRT DEVIL VISION VACUUM CLEANER?

With the vacuum unplugged, turn the machine beater bar side up. Locate the clips or screws that hold the plate over the beater bar and remove the plate. The beater bar sits in sockets just inside. Be careful in removing it; take your time and note how it comes out...this will make reassembly easier. Clean the debris while you have tha bar off and remove any debris thet you see in the vacuum hose area behind the bar....The new belt slips over the motor shaft behind the beater bar (further up in the cavity behind the b/b), then you slip it back onto the beater bar as you place the bar back nto the sockets. Test your work by revolving the bar a bit to make sure that everything is back in place. Replace the plate.

Change belt on a eureka

With the vacuum unplugged, turn the machine beater side uo. On the plate that surrounds the beater bar, look for release tabs to open the plate. Flip them and set the plate to the side. The beater bar rides in sockets. Remove the bar, install the new belt around the motor shaft, then work the beater back into the sockets. Replace the plate. Test your work by rotating the beater bar by hand, making sure that it is reinstalled correctly.

How to change belt on this model?

Changing the belt on this nifty little machine only seems difficult until you find all eight of the screws that hold the entire assembly together, and the nice thing is you get to totally ignore the torx style screws altogether.

There are two screws in the bottom of the unit just forward and to either side of the beater brush, remove 'em.

Flip the vacuum over and remove the two screws holding the top in place. One is located under the removable suction hose near the right rear wheel, the other is in plain sight over the left rear wheel.

After you pop the top off you'll see the dark clear plastic housing that covers the beater brush and belt assembly. It is held in place by four more screws, three on the back side of the beater and one on the front side in the center of the machine.

Change your belt, clean your brush and tell your kids to get back to work while you take something out for dinner and open a cold one.
