Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

My GE oven takes a long time to lite. When it finally does there is a small explosion sound. I already replaced the ignitor 2 weeks ago. It worked fine for about 1 week and now I have the same problem again with small explosion sound. Please anyone with any suggestions.

If the gas valve is opening in a reasonable amount of time then the problem isn't with the igniter and you don't need to bother testing amp draw... Could be a number of things, clogged burner ports near the igniter, incorrect air/ gas ratio, incorrect igniter position (too far away from the burner), incorrect gas pressure. If you can, watch the burner when it lights from a safe distance and see if both sides are igniting at the same time or if it just builds up gas until BOOM! Ha ha, hope you figure it out, be careful.

GE Profile Spectra XL44 oven- Makes a popping noise while heating up

assuming you have a gas rang here sounds like a bad ignitor, too long to light causes a "popping "noise when it finally does, as well as extending cooking time and perhaps slight smell of gas while cooking, all signs of bad ignitor.when you start the oven should light bake bar in 40-60 secs. any longer, bad ignitor
easy part to replace yourself part num wb2x9154, remove bottom of oven cavity, 2 screws mount ignitor to burner and 2 wires lead from ignitor( use wire nuts provided if needed . and makes no difference which wire goes where theres no polarity.

When it comes to water damage, any component including wires should be replaced if they were submerged in water. The damage is not always evident and failure can occur at the most inconvenient of times. The oven is not working either because the ignitor is weak or the safety valve is toast from the water. I would not try to use this in my home unless the submerged components were replaced. Hopefully you have insurance to cover your losses.

Oven igniter causes small explosion

Sounds like the ignitor is worn or mispositioned or the gas mix is wrong.  Could also be a worn burner.  Don't do this yourself unless your fire insurance is up to date.
