Try replacing the ink cartridges as they may have dried out either from age or the seat where they are stored when not being used is caked with old ink.

My calibration page printed on plain white text paper

When you calibrate the 5100 AIO, first, you push in the photo paper drawer until it CLICKS. Next, print an alignment sheet. It will use the photo paper. Pull the drawer out, put the printed sheet in the scanner bed, with the arrow in the right hand corner, closest to you. Press start and it will scan and print a sheet on full sized paper.
If your initial scan doesn't print onto photo paper, you don't have the drawer pushed in the whole way. There is a definite click and the green light will turn on.

How to Repair Canon Printer

Canon printers are available in various models, such as laser, inkjet, photo and all-in-one model which can copy, scan, print and faxtogether. Though, Canon is one of the most trusted brands when it comesto printers, but like all other technical products, its printers canalso ditch you when you are in the most urgent need.

Printer is a good companion if it works nicely, but a worse foe when itstops giving the desired results. Here are some of the tips that youcan follow to fix your Canon printer and get the best out of it.

General Issues

Paper jam: It’s a frequent mishap when more than one sheet ofpaper stuck together in the feeding mechanism. You can manually liftthe cover and remove it.

Ink level: Your cartridge has no ink and you may be getting no print except a blank paper.

Clogged cartridges: This is the most common fault, when yourcartridge head is clogged with dry ink. You can repair it with simplecommand as: Control Panel> Printer>Right Click>Properties>Maintenance> Clean Cartridges.

Driver failure: Software bugs, errors or conflicts may arise onaccount of corrupted printer’s software and hardware. You need toreinstall printer drivers and software. Try to get best compatibledriver for installation.

Alternatively, you can update your printer driver as: "Control Panel> Printers > Right Click > Properties > Update Driver".

Canon-Specific Issues

Waste Ink Error: Here you need to take some setting steps. Pressmenu option of your printer followed by scan/copy to access Servicemore option. Now, press the right arrow to explore "NVRAM". Set ABS-Mlevel to 0. Set ABS-P level to 0. Press "Stop" to exit.

Invalid Cartridge Message: Turn off your printer besidesunplugging the power cable. Recover the cartridges and the print headand dip them in lukewarm water to remove clotted ink. Allow them to dryand wipe with a tissue. Now, reset them in your printer and run thecartridge alignment.

E0D02 error: Ensure your cartridge as well as the attachedsender strip is free from moisture and dust. The sender strip islocated behind the rubber drive belt and runs horizontally across themachine. Make a regular practice to wipe it with a soft cloth.

Learn some printer etiquette's to avoid above issues:

Keep patience: Don’t give print commands for multiple jobs at asingle time, as the printer take the time as per the size of the printjob requested earlier.

Use desired paper: Abstain from printing on card stock, photo paper, etc; use only laser jet paper.

Restrict print jobs beyond 50 pages: Don’t over burden yourprinter. It is advised to print not more than 50 pages in one singlego. Avoid too much color ink: Black and white laser printers are thebest as they need the least maintenance.

I have an HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One that was purchased in 2008. I have using it to scan slides and create JPEG files from which I have been making prints, mostly 4x6 format. Just today for the first...

Issue The All-in-One is working, but the printed output is not straight on the page. It is skewed or crooked. Solution Follow these steps to resolve this issue: Step one: Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly
  1. To make sure that the paper is loaded correctly, check the following conditions:
    • The right side of the paper is even with the right side of the paper tray.
    • The paper guides are adjusted to the edges of the paper.
    • The paper is flat in the tray.
  2. Make sure only one type of paper is loaded in the All-in-One.
  3. Make sure the rear access door is securely installed.
Print a diagnostic page If no identifiable problem exists with the paper or the guides, print a test diagnostic page to see if the unit is operating correctly. Follow these steps to print a diagnostic page:
  1. Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. Touch the Setup icon on the display.
  3. Touch Tools .
  4. Touch Self-Test Report . The HP All-in-One prints a Self-Test report, which might show the source of the printing problem.
Validate that the printer is within skew tolerance Follow these steps to validate that the printer is within skew tolerance using the self test report:
  1. Fold the paper horizontally into half. Look through the paper to see the single and double lines at the top and bottom of the page.
  2. The line over the single line and the line below the two lines should overlap exactly.
  3. The single line at the top of the page should fall between the two lines at the bottom of the page.
Step two: Clean the paper rollers Follow these steps to clean the paper rollers:
  1. Turn off the unit and unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the rear access door.
  3. Wipe the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water. Rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all the way around.
  4. Allow the rollers to dry completely, and then replace the rear access door.
  5. Plug the unit back in and turn it on.
Step three: Service the printer If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. If this does not resolve the probelm I suggestsdownloading the HP Print Diagnoostic Utility:

Hi. I cant get my printer to allign. I've just replaced the black ink cartridge and when i put the allignment page inside the scanner it wont scan

Did you try to align the unit manually or with the computer?

Alignment page does not print

1 Make sure you remove the sticker and transparent tape from both print

cartridges.

2 Make sure the color print cartridge is secure in the left carrier and the black

print cartridge is secure in the right carrier.
3 Make sure you loaded the paper correctly and did not force the paper into
the printer.

Aligning your print cartridges without a computer

Make sure you follow the steps on the Setup sheet to complete hardware

installation. Continue with the following steps to optimize print quality.

1 Make sure you have loaded paper into the paper support, and then press

and hold Scan for three seconds. For help, see "Using the control panel"

on page 4.

An alignment page prints.

2 Place the printed alignment page onto the scanner glass.

3 Press Scan. For help, see "Using the control panel" on page 4.

Once scanning is complete, your print cartridges are aligned for optimal
print quality.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

Thanks, Joe

Can I scan pictures to my computer?

Yes ... your all-in-one can print, copy and scan.

From:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00737535.pdf

Scan an image

You can start a scan from your computer or from the HP All-in-One.
This section explains how to scan from the control panel of the HP All-in-One only. To use the scan features, the HP All-in-One and computer must be connected and turned on. The HP Photosmart Software (Windows) or HP Photosmart Mac Software (Mac) must
also be installed and running on your computer prior to scanning.
● On a Windows computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon in the Windows system tray (at the lower right side of the screen, near the time) to verify the software is running.
Note Closing the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon in the Windows system tray can cause the HP All-in-One to lose some of its scan functionality. If this happens, you can restore full functionality by restarting your computer or by starting the HP Photosmart Software.
● On a Mac, the software is always running.
Tip You can use the HP Photosmart Software (Windows) or HP Photosmart Mac Software (Mac) to scan images, including panorama images. Using this software, you can also edit, print, and even share your scanned images. For more information, see the onscreen Help that came with the HP All-in-One.

HP 2710 Printer

Issue When using colored paper in the all-in-one, printing or copying is slow. Solution This issue is a result of the automatic paper type sensor misreading the colored paper as photo paper. The print out takes longer because the unit is printing in Best mode instead of Normal mode. Follow the steps below to temporarily change the Automatic Paper Type setting from within the application that you are printing from.
  1. Click File , then Print or Print Setup .
  2. Select the appropriate all-in-one from the drop-down list and click Properties .
  3. Click the Paper/Quality tab and under Type is: select Plain Paper . Changes made within the application might not be permanent and the setting will default back to Automatic after closing the application. The setting will have to be changed each time colored paper is used in the all-in-one.
Follow the steps below to change the default Automatic Paper Type setting to plain paper.
NOTE: By following the steps below, the default Automatic Paper Type setting will be changed to Plain Paper. In order to use a different paper type in the all-in-one (e.g., photo paper), the setting will have to be temporarily changed to reflect the new paper type.
  1. Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
  2. Double-click Printers and Faxes .
  3. Right-click the appropriate all-in-one, and then click Printing Preferences .
  4. Click the Paper/Quality tab and under Type is: select Plain Paper . This sets the default paper type setting to Plain Paper.
