no - forcing the tray open is a last resort, and duznt really solve the major problem of why it just sits in standby. remote powers unit ON but will not power it OFF - or perfrom any other function. checked unit over thoroughly, NO reset button on it - even underneath it. thanks tho for the suggestions.

Well one of two things that i'd suggest, forcing the tray open, or using the reset button thats hidden at times.

no worries. never said forcing it open would be the best. just an idea if nothing else works. seems like there may be an electronics issue.

Have SANYO VCR/DVD Model E175216 and can't locate timer button for late night programming

Hi, if ithere is no button on the front of the unit or on the remote, then simply setting the unit to standby with either power button should make the unit enter the timer record mode. (This will be indicated with TIMER or a small red clock symbol in the display providing all the conditions have ben met. i..e clock & timer correctly set, tape in machine, etc)

How to connect to TV

The Yellow/Red/White connectors are Composite+Audio
Yellow carries a composite signal and Red and White Carry left and right audio channels.

Red Green Blue Connectors are Component
Each coloured connector carries one 'component' of the picture

So yes, your extra set of red white yellow cables would be fine to use, just make sure you connect the same colors at each end red-red green-green blue-blue

However..... the red green blue only carry the video, you will still need to carry the Audio, this is usually done either by the red and white (L & R stereo) or your DVD may also have an optical or coaxial output to carry the sound. if there is no equivalent connector on the TV then you may be stuck swapping the red/white cables, usually though there would be 2 sets of red/white connectors one set to go with the yellow, one set to go with RGB.

turn the power on. to get rid of the red light you need to press the timer/rec button on the remote until it turns off. the red light means it is programed to record.

do you see the laser light come on when the disk spins if not it has probably lost power or failed, if so sometimes the laser head gets moved to close to the drive mechanism and the motor cant pull it out. i have found several of these that had this problem.
