Change product key

DISCLAIMER: Do it at your own risk.

Solution: This works for Office XP, 2003 and 2007

1-Close all programs in the Office suite, including Word, Excel, Access and One Note.

2-
Click "Start" and select "Run."

  • 3-
Type "regedit" into the the "Open" box and press "Enter" or click 'OK."
  • 4-Click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and select "Software." Scroll down and click "Microsoft" and choose "Office." Look under the "12.0" folder and select the "Registration" folder. Click on your user name, if applicable, where you will find a sub key with various alphabetic and numeric characters.

  • 5-Right-click on this sub key directory and select "Export" to back up the registry key to a location you will easily remember. This backs up the information in case any modifications cause Office, or your computer, to experience problems or conflicts.

  • 6-Delete the individual "Globally Unique Identifiers" keys titled "ProductID" and "DigitalProductID" under the Microsoft Office folder.

  • 7-Run any office program. You will be prompted to re-enter a new product key. You must also re-activate the software through Microsoft, so you will need an active Internet connection.

    If running XP:

    Two things to check

Open Control Panel and select Sound and Audio. In the new window select the Audio tab and make sure your sound card is selected as the default playback device.

    or

Open Computer management, click the plus sign by "Services and applications" and highlight "Services".

.Its also possible that a windows update caused this (sometimes malware or virus)

    Windows won't load

Try booting to "Safe Mode" (tapping the "F8" key on boot), or however you can get to your Desktop, click start, right click "My Computer", select "Properties", then "Advanced" tab, then click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery", then uncheck "Automatically restart" under "System Failure", click "OK" then "OK" again and restart your PC.

That should allow you to run without the instant restarting on BSOD, so you can repair/remove Mcafee.
