Boot log 1525

venkatachalam,

How to Enable Boot Logging in Windows By Dan Gookin from Troubleshooting Your PC For Dummies, 3rd Edition
Two event log files that come in handy for troubleshooting your PC are the boot log files. These files are created when you specify boot logging as a start-up option. The files are named either ntbtlog.txt or bootlog.txt, depending on how old your PC is. These files, found in the Windows folder, list the success or failure of various pieces of Windows as it's loaded into memory from the PC's mass storage system.
You can enable or disable boot logging by using the MSCONFIG utility. Follow these steps in Windows 7 and Windows Vista:
  1. Press Win+R to summon the Run dialog box.
  2. Type msconfig and press Enter.
  3. In Windows Vista, type the administrator's password or click the Continue button.
  4. Click the Boot tab.
  5. Place a check mark by the item Boot Log.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click the Restart button to restart now. Otherwise, click Exit without Restart.
The logging doesn't take effect until you restart Windows, and you have no reason to do so immediately unless you really want to see the boot log.
In Windows XP, you can enable boot logging by pressing the F8 key when Windows first starts and choose the item Enable Boot Logging.
The boot log is overwritten every time you start Windows. And, the log is produced only when you turn on the boot logging option.
What can you do with the boot log? You can check for the failed installation of certain pieces of Windows or device drivers. The drivers or files are obviously flagged in the log. Because you know the filename, you can then either disable it from loading or look for an update.
  • Activating the boot log in Windows 7 or Windows Vista means that you configured your PC for a custom start-up. If that bothers you, disable the boot log after you cull whatever useful information you need from the boot log file; repeat the steps used to enable boot logging, but in Step 5, remove the check mark.
  • Traditionally, computer logs are all text files. They may have the filename extension log, or they may use txt instead.
  • You can search for log files by using the Windows Search command. Simply look for files named *log* anywhere on the hard drive, including system, hidden, and non-indexed locations.
  • Most log files are in plain text, but the text may be organized by using the XML, or Extensible Markup Language. XML is merely a way to organize information, and although XML files are readable as text, to get the most from the information, you should use an XML reader, such as the Event Viewer program.
  • If you find the file boot.ini on your Windows XP computer, you can enable boot logging by modifying the file. Open it in Notepad and look for the line that contains this text:
Windows="Windows XP (That's only a portion of the line; in the file, it's longer). Add the text /bootlog to the end of the line. Save the file. When you restart Windows, boot logging takes place automatically.

Logging Off

how long have you waited for it to log off? sometimes it's performing background operations i.e. updates or trying to close a program. hit the windows key and the r key at the same time and type eventvwr and press enter. look at your system events and application events and make sure that it's not having a problem closing a program. this could be what's causing the laptop to hang @ turn off.

My Toshiba laptop is stuck in logging off mode. How can I fix this?

if you have a program running that is non responsive and try to shut down or restart, the computer will get stuck on the logging off screen. Often times if a computer takes a long time to do anything, it means you need to defrag your hard drive. Manually shut down the computer (you might have been pushing the Sleep button. If you can't figure it out, just unplug it and let the battery run down.) and when you restart it, go to the My Computer or Computer option, right click on your C drive, click on properties and a window should pop up. Click on the tab that says Tools and click on the Defragmentation option. The rest should be pretty self-explanatory. If nothing works. please try logging in as administrator in safe mode and doing a system restore.... please see Using Windows Vista System Restore :: the How-To Geek

I have HP thin client for my house but I don't how exactly to connect to the internet by using the Citrix teh neighborhood program? Can someone help me on this?

You can always use a program like driver genius or Boot from a Knoppix cd and run ls pci from the command window. If the card is not integrated in the motherboard pop it out and get the numbers off the card itself.

Unix

Improving UNIX server performance NOTES.INI settings Most NOTES.INI settings that affect IBM® Lotus® Domino® server performance apply to all UNIX® platforms.
NSF_Buffer_Pool_Size_MB Many machines that run UNIX have very large amounts of physical RAM. Use the parameters NSF_Buffer_Pool_Size_MB or PercentSysAvailable Resources to control how much memory Domino is allowed to use. Each Domino instance on a UNIX machine can reference a maximum of 4GB of RAM.
Disk and memory requirements When a UNIX system runs Domino server software, the server must have enough disk space for program and data files and enough memory to handle swapping and the number of processes. You can also change several system parameters to improve server performance.
Disk I/O tuning Maintaining multiple file systems for operating system files, swap space, transaction logs, and data improves overall server performance.
Use RAID 0+1 hardware for the disk drives on which the data files reside. Use multiple smaller disk drives instead of a few large disk drives for Domino data. Domino does not perform simple predictable sequential reads; therefore, disable Read Ahead Cache and enable Write Cache.
Keeping swap space on its own separate striped volumes improves server performance at high loads. The transaction logs should always be on the most reliable and highest performing disk subsystem available to the system hosting the Domino server. Transaction logging must be on its own disk drives for improved server restart time, reliability, and availability. The logged transactions are written to disk as fast serial writes to a sequential file that is of configurable size in 4K blocks.
Console and database logging To improve server performance, limit the amount of information that is logged to the log file (LOG.NSF) and the console.

Newly bought 2GB DataTraveler only show 1GB capacity

Did you read the emanual that is on the Kindston's website for the DataTraveller? When you use the password protection program, it logs you IN to another partition you created when you started it the first time. It logs you off of the  normal drive partition and in to the password protected partition.

Both exist on the same pen drive but can not be accessed at the same time. Try logging off using the same program or if there's such a logoff shortcut anywhere on the pendrive, yo should be back to the normal 2GB partition.
