Well, first things first I guess:

  1. Try the printer in a different outlet (other side of room, or similar, not same power Jack)
    1. If you have power here, your issue is likely the outlet, not the printer.
  2. If the power cord has an "on" LED, check to see if it is lit up while plugged in.
    1. If you have an LED with no light while it is plugged in, you are looking at a power adapter that is no longer working
  3. If there is no "on" LED to check, your next best bet is to take your printer and power cord to a store that sells printers, and ask if you can "try" a new chord before buying it. (most stores will allow this to keep customers happy)
  4. You may also want to check with the manufacturer if the chord is found to be bad, as some will send replacements free of charge.
  5. The last option is that there is an issue inside the printer. This is not likely, though it is possible. Most printers have an external power adapter that keeps any power issue outside of the printer, but I can't tell from the epson site if this printer has one or not. (It would be a black box between the plug and printer.)
    1. This can also be checked by "testing" a new chord at a store. New chord, still no power, internal issue.
      1. If this is the case you will want to contact Epson if the unit is still under warranty.
-Hope this helps.

Epson 4800 Error message - Service req. 100001C0

I was printing quite happily on my Epson 4800 one evening recently, but the next morning the automated nozzle check sent by Harvey Head Cleaner did not print and there were a couple of flashing red LEDs and the printer's LCD display was saying "Service req. 100001C0". What to do? I was about to set off for the day job so I just had to leave it flashing away as I had no idea what to do, but fear the worst...

I did a quick web search that evening and found very little, but a couple of posts seemed to think that turning off the printer was the solution.

I had a look at the Espon Field repair guide that I have and found the following in the error codes section:
100001C0

AC disruption (AC Power) (Unplug and wait 30 sec., then plug back in)

I have the printer plugged into a
power surge protector block so there should not have been any problems and no other equipment was saying that there had been a power outage, but...

So I turned off the printer and left it for a day while I got on with the day job again. When I turned on the printer there was a lot of whirring while it went through its "auto something or other" routine (see previous postings for my thoughts on this) which I watched with a lot of trepidation as this often converts a perfect nozzle check into one with one of more colours completely missing.

Eventually it told me to press pause and then went into it's "Ready" mode.

I ran a nozzle check and it came out perfectly, so all was well again.

Not to be too facetious, I decided to invest in another printer...so that's how I'm going to "fix" this problem. I was told that it was an internal electrical problem and that I should take it back to where I had it serviced for overflow ink pads. The printer worked fine until a few days ago. What that technicion told me at the time, is that he didn't replace the ink pads, just cleaned them and re-set the counter (that tells you when to replace those pads). I suspect now that the problem might be in the counter. Yes, I could take the printer back, a pain-in-the-neck; whether they would charge me for another visit, I don't know since this is a different problem. The unit is a few years old....do I pump more money into it or just get a new one, since they are relatively inexpensive. Because of that, I'm not sure I want to invest in another Epson brand printer. The difference in the problem, is that when I needed new ink pads, the red and green lights flashed alternately, even though it wouldn't print. Now none of the lights comes on. The ink jet printers have ink absorbing pads to catch and accumulate ink used to clean the printheads. The counter on MB counts number of head cleanings and printer startups (at every start up the heads are cleaned) and at preset number of cleaning alerts the operator that "printer needs maintenance" and sets the red light. You probably need a change ink absorbing pads (or wash them and dry 'em up) and then make a reset the count using printer Service Utility (can be downloaded from the web). To get to the ink absorbing pads is not easy - you need to remove the printer case - I am not familiar with 1280, but I did that on Epson 3000 & 5000 printers. In many cases the pads are actually OK , but the MB reaches the count and flags the pads.

Epson 1280 Will Not Take Paper through to print?

Follow the instructions below in an attempt to resolve the issue you are experiencing.
1) Turn off the printer and remove all paper from the paper tray.
2) With the printer off, check for any obstructions such as torn paper or foreign objects.
3) Place 20-30 sheets of paper in the printer, ensuring none of the paper is torn or creased.
4) Make sure that the paper is flush with the far right edge of paper tray, move the left edge paper guide over so that it touches the left side of the paper.
5) Attempt printing.
