My Dell 1100 printer is stopped by a paper jam. I have pulled all the paper out that I could reach from the top and the bottom, but can'y get it all. Is there some way I could loosen the fuser, etc to remove the paper. Or, is there a way that I can trigger it to run without paper to expell the jammed paper?

With your printer, it's not possible to simply unlock and pull out the fuser unit, but to clear the paper jam inside or near the fuser unit, you have to access from the front.
Open the front access door, pull out the toner cartridge and the drum, then you'll be able to see-through the passage upto the Fuser unit. From there you can pull out any obstructions or broken paper stuck beside or inside the compartment. To remove your fuser, you'll need to remove the screws (there should be two screws,). But this is not included in the troubleshooting measures, you can still remove the jammed paper from the front access door. If you don't know how to disassemble the machine, I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself, rather call a friend or other guy who has a little disassembling laser printer and help you fix it. Please note that fuser unit is very hot and you can only access it after the printer is kept off for at least 30 minutes, if done without proper precaution, you may damage the fuser unit (I hope you understand the contraction and expansion of an object when heated and cooled).

Removing fuser in a Dell printer (all almost dell printers) requires at least 4 screws to be removed and it's also in two steps, one before you reach the unit i.e. removing the cover and next, after removing the cover. It's fitted inside the compartment which is not accessible like Hp or other laser printers.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

How can i fix a paper jam

The simple answer is to tell you to remove the paper jam. Make sure you get the entire page out of the printer.

There are two types paper jams.

1) An actual paper jam.
2) If paper does not reach any of the paper path sensors in the time allotted to reach it, the sensor reports a jam because something prevented the paper from reaching the sensor.

A quick test would be to place some marks on the top sheet of paper then initiate a feed cycle. If the paper stays in the tray, then you have a paper pick problem and more than likely you will need to have the printer serviced.

Paper is jamming during printing process. Gets half way round and jams. please suggest solutions

There are rollers that the paper has to go between to be pulled forwards. When the rollers get dirty with paper dust, paper starts jamming. So you need to clean the rollers with a moist (not wet) soft cloth, Keep rolling the rollers manually and keep cleaning them. Then allow a few minutes to dry them up. And no jam after that.

Paper Jamming

The problem with your printer is likely to be dust getting the way of your sensors; preventing it from seeing paper, preventing the rollers from effectively feeding the paper. This is if you are sure all other things are in proper working condition. Just get a long reach brush and try to reach in as far as possible and brush as best as you could, front and back is there is access.
