You are going to have to download a Windows 7 driver from Canon that will allow them to communicate.
Go to this page here (click here) and under the Drivers and Software, where it says "Choose your operating system", select Windows 7.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

How do you access the internal memory on a canon power shot sd790is?

The internal memory can not be accessed, you can only access the memory card that holds the photos and this done by connecting the USB cable between the camera and PC.

What size screw do I need for the canon powershot sd790 is side strap panel? Both of them have fallen out.

The Canon SD790 has a problem where the two screws in the side of the camera work themselves loose over time, then fall out. Many times people lose the two side body pieces of the camera as well!

Both screws need to be put back in place and held in with 'Locktite' so they don't fall out again.

If you do a Google search for "Canon SD790 screws " you will see in the #1 position Darntoothysam com, where you can buy the exact OEM Canon screws for $7 including shipping.

Hope this helps!

CAMERA MESSAGE SD790 IS

Well, I haven't used a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS Digital Camera before, but I want to suggest this: before you start thinking of putting your camera apart, try to clean the battery terminals and the battery contacts of the camera with clean white paper, then reinsert the pack. Please be very careful when doing this so that you do not break or bend the contacts or terminals; they are usually delicate material.

Canon PowerShot SD790

Set the correct time, using the 24-hour clock. If you do this at 3PM, for example, set the hour to 15, not to 3.
