Question about Gateway MT3705 Notebook
Do you hear the OS booting up(Start up sounds and stuff). Did you try hooking it up to an external monitor? If not then please try it and see if it works with the external monitor. From what you have described it sounds like a LCD screen/backlight failure.

Your screen has a transformer that makes it light up well these transformers go out after time. You can order a new inverter board witch the transformer is located on from a computer store or ebay. They are located behind the plastic either next to the screen or below it. They can cost from seven dollars to as much as fifty dollars. This is a common occurence with the screens not working thanks
