Marc of Nc. check to make sure the fan in the freezer is operating when the compressor is on. The only thing the fresh food section gets its cool air from is the freezer. and if the fan is not operating no cold air will get up there. If the fan is running you need to make sure the air duct is not blocked with frost of the evaporator is not iced up. Check that out and get back with me if there still is a problem. Good Luck

Check to see if the bacl of the fridge is iced over, if it is the fridge is not defrosting, 99% of the time it is the defrost control circuit board located in the upper right hand corner of the fridge.

My Maytag MFF2558VEM Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator doesn't keep cool

What you should be looking for is a blocked air flow. The fan in the freezer will push air up to the fridge and cool it off. Look for a dead fan motor in the freezer or a blocked air vent Good luck

Side by side refrigerator whistling sound coming from freezer fan area

We had a lot of inquiries with what we call whistling appear to be from different problems which here below:

First case, whistling sound is what we call "Ghosting". To get rid of this sound one needs to put more gas into the system, but more gas will create the suction pipe to frost up and reducing the gas level will create less cooling. The best solution were to full regenerating Freon gas mean remove it filter it out and charge it back. However this will cost more $100 and basically you can leave it and live with it. No harm is created only the sound appears while running.

Second case were with a loud whistling, like a dying bird stuck in your freezer, you likely have a faulty freezer fan motor and you need to be replaced

Third case were with a lower pitched, sort of gentle whistling sound then you have an issue with the door damper, which allows the air flow from the freezer into the refrigerator. And assuming you don't have any cooling problems, it may simply be a normal occurrence, as some makes and models open and close this damper door automatically, and when it is closed, can sometimes cause a low whistling noise

Fourth case was making a moaning, whistling noise coming from just above the ice maker. It happened when the fan speed changed. We found out that the motherboard was probably defective.
Rather than go thru GE, you can found a new one online for 66 bucks. You can replaced it in about ten minutes and it's all fixed.

Fifth the evaporator fan motor should not change speeds in less than 1 minute of time. The fan motor has two speeds. Usually this is a indication of a failing main board. If you have a meter you can do a voltage check at the J-2 connector on the board. Check for 13VDC between pins J2-3 and J2-8 and 8 to 13VDC between J2-3 and J2-4. If this voltage stays steady, your problem lies in the evaporator fan motor. If this voltage drops out or fluctuates, it's more than likely the board need to be replaced

My Maytag MFD2560HES bottom fridge is making a loud humming noise.

Any time there is the sound of humming it is important to locate where the noise is coming from. Sometimes fans wear to a point that at one speed the sound as if humming. Sometimes compressors hum with more catastrophic results. Because your model is a bottom freezer it would be a good idea to open drawer to freezer and see if the sound is from fan in freezer or if pulled away from wall is the sound the fan or compressor area? I believe I will be able to locate a service manual but I will need you to help me pinpoint the location of the loud sound so we can get the sounds back to normal. Let me know if you are able to try that and what you find, Sea Breeze

Whistling sound from inside freezer compartment

is this a loud whistling, like a dying bird stuck in your freezer, or is this a lower pitched, sort of gentle whistling sound. If its the former, you likely have a faulty freezer fan motor. replace
if its the latter, sounds like you may have a issue with the door damper, which allows the air flow from the freezer into the refrigerator. However, assuming you dont have any cooling problems, you didnt mention if you do, it may simply be a normal occurance, as some makes and models open and close this damper door automatically, and when it is closed, can sometimes cause a low whistling noise

It sounds like your evaporator fan motor, they last about 4-5 years. Try to see if the buzzing noise comes from the motor, usually in the freezer compartment behind a vented cover plate

The freezer is usually cooled by the compressor, the fridge is then cooled by an evaporator fan motor ($30). If this fan seizes or slows down then the fridge warms up (it sometimes starts squealing before this happens). It could be that your drain hose is clogged or frozen. Maybe the temperature adjuster go bumped.

If you think it is the evaporator fan motor:
Check to be sure you can get a replacement fan first, they last about 4 - 5 years. Can get from a parts supplier or electric motor company.
UNPLUG fridge. Located usually in top of freezer behind a vented cover plate. Remove cover, remove screws holding fan in, may have to cut wires. Replace with new motor, make sure the fan pushes air into the freezer area and doesn't spin backward drawing air from the freezer area.

Whisling noise coming out of inside the refrigerator. Louder when freezer door is open. maybe ice maker area?

The whistling is caused by the air circulating fan located just behind the light. It is easily accessed by removing the light cover and the two small hex screws above the light. To stop the whistling I simply turned the freezer off and pulled the fan cover out slightly to reveal the fan blades. I then pushed the blades down, toward the bottom of the until the blades stopped and i could feel the shaft slightly protruding from the top of the blades. Repositioning the blade has stopped the incessant whistling. Hope this helps!

Your defrost system consists of the timer, heater and thermostat. Your problem could be any of these. But because your fan doesn't turn off it is more than likely the timer. https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model-number/MTB1956GEW/3048/0166000.html
