    Hi ginger.

I cannot tell what product you have.
Do you know the brand and model-number?
    Or have the operation manual?

  • gingero Oct 06, 2010

There are two knobs side by side - - it says Night Sentry - one for am and one for pm. and a dial to turn on the time of day. Intermatic Corporation- Dynascan Corp- Chicago - can't find a number anywhere. Thanks for any input you can give me!

  • gingero Oct 08, 2010

No - the timer had two dials side by side - you may be right - it may just be time for a new one! Thanks for all your help. Will check out the instructions too.

Ginger,

It sounds like an older Intermatic timer
Does your timer look similar to this timer? EJ351
Here are the instructions for this timer:
Usually if the timer is still made, I can find a manual and piece together a solution... but I don't know this timer, and if it is malfunctioning ....

It may be time for a new timer > the EJ351 is inexpensive, simple to install (just 2 wires) and simple to program >>> one knob controls both AM-PM.

Following link has a close-up photo of on-off pins on GE 15075 timer
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15075

Pins are located around timer dial
The pins divide 24-hour day into 1/2 hour segments
Pins are out for ON
Pins are inward for OFF
Notice that numbered dial is divided into dark and light areas ... the dark areas are PM, light areas AM.

For example you are connecting chicken coop lamp to this timer.
Turn lamp on and make sure bulb is working.
Plug lamp into timer.
Set pins in and out as follows: all pins outward between 4:30 pm on light part of dial to 8:00 pm on dark part of dial. And then set all pins outward between 5:00am on dark part of dial to 7:00 am on light part of dial.
Plug timer into outlet
Move switch located on top to TIMER ON
Manually rotate timer dial clockwise to see lamp turn on and off.
Lastly, set current time: Manually rotate timer dial clockwise until current time lines up with arrowhead located on inner dial. So if current time is high noon, then rotate dial until 'sun' symbol located on light part of dial lines up with arrowhead.
As time passes, the timer dial rotates, and the pins click circuit on-off.
To override timer, move switch to outlet-on.

You posted under The Woods/Coleman 2001 timer.
This is same as Westek TM14DOLB, Sylvania SA200 and similar to GE 57696.

If this is not your timer, add a comment with description and brand of timer.
Also see Woods timers and manuals to help identify your timer.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#2001

This particular timer turns ON automatically at dusk.
And then you set the dial for other options as follows.
Dial set to ON > timer ON full time
Dial set to OFF > timer OFF
Dial set to 2 4 6 8 > timer turns OFF 2 4 6 8 hours after dusk
Dial set to Dawn-dusk > timer turns OFF at dawn.

I have a intermatic ej351c indoor wall switch programmable timer that I have tried several time to program an on time for the lights to come on however the lights does come on. I have followed the...

There might be a couple things that are easy to overlook.

Press the button to see if lights come on >>> if light do not turn on with manual override, then light might be burned out or circuit breaker tripped. Sometimes a breaker is tripped but you can't tell by looking at it

1) The timer is used on incandescent bulbs only. I don't know why, but it says no
  • Compact Florescent
  • Energy Saver
  • Flood lights
  • Halogen
  • Mercury Vapor
  • Christmas lights
  • Candelabra bulbs
2) Is the red indicator light ON?
For programs to work, timer has to be in automatic mode and the red indicator light will be ON
The Switch Timer can be used in two modes. manual & automatic
To switch between modes, quickly press the dial twice:
AUTOMATIC MODE: The Switch Timer will turn your lights ON or OFF according to programmed settings. The RED indicator light stays ON when in Automatic Mode.

MANUAL MODE: Programmed settings are inactive, and
the Switch Timer will only turn the light ON or OFF when
you push on the dial.
RED indicator light stays OFF when in Manual mode.

3) setting current time> lets look at the red indicator light while doing this
Move switch lever to OFF-Clear
Move lever to ON >>> red indicator is flashing
Rotate dial to nearest current time (if it's 7:20 pm, rotate dial to 7:30pm)
Press the dial once to set current time > red indicator light goes off
Do not accidentally press dial or it will set the wrong time....ok we know that

4) overlapping programs/
Make a chart of the times you want to program with ON and OFF plus am & pm
Check your chart for overlapping times that tell the timer to do more than one thing

Rotate dial clockwise to the first ON time >> pay attention to am & pm
Press button and first ON time is set
Rotate dial clockwise to the first OFF time >> watch the am and pm
Press button and first OFF time is set
You can have 48 on-off times >>> which seems a lot for a 24 hour repeat timer

5) try the timer with one program

6) If timer still doesn't work, put switch back in and see if lights turn on that way >>> it could be a loose wire suddenly cropped up

Last step >>> timer is no good, you need another one. We tried.

What kind of Woods timer do you have?

Is the dial turning? The dial is the clock. And the clock needs electricity to work, just like alarm clock. If dial is not turning, the wiring is not right.

Does the manual override turn on the lights? Maybe the slider switch set to OFF? Set slider to "Timer" for timer functions to work.

Wall timer:
If you have 59017 wall timer, it has dark PM white AM. You rotate dial until correct time lines up with little triangle located on right side of center knob.
7e3b45a.jpg

There are 48 plastic pins on dial ... when pins are moved out, the lights are off. For timer functions, set slide switch to 'Timer'
Correct wiring is needed for timer to work:
Timer black attaches to Hot wire from breaker box
Timer red attaches to wire going to Load (lights)
Timer white must attach to white Neutral (or if your box has no neutral, connect white to bare ground)
Timer green connects to bare ground

If wiring seems right but dial on front of timer is still not rotating, then reverse Timer red and Timer black and see if that sorts out problem.

If this is wrong Woods timer, please re-post question.

I want to set the timer and I don't know how

The timer has a dial and an arrow pointing to a certain time. Turn the dial to the correct time of the day ex. it is 2 p.m. rotate the dial so as the arrow points at 2 p.m. Then their are some clips around the dial 2 or 4 or more has to be in pairs. If you want to start sprinkling at 3:00 pm and stop at 3:20 pm put one clip at 3:00 pm and the other clip at 3:20 pm. One clip turns the sprinkler on and the other turns it off.

Need instructions

I have a similar sounding timer. It has the same dial and an AM/PM window on it and is made by Dynascan. I found this post on Fixya: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2314418-instructions_program_intermatic_ej351c and then went to the intermatic site and got these instructions: http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/ej351c%20-%20english.ashx I used the RAPID programming instructions and they seemed to work great (at least the red light acted like it was supposed to.) Guess I'll find out tonight :)
