Do you have the original speakers or are these aftermarket speakers you are trying to install?

Thanks

Wait what, but there are slots for the other 3 speakers also correct? I am looking at the back of one of these units and it has slots for all speakers. Does yours somehow only have the 2 slots?

Or you're saying when you plug in all 5 speakers, only 2 work?

Ok, and if you hook the other speakers that are currently not working into one of the 3 working slots, do they produce sound? I am quite certain they will. Yes the 6th slot is for the subwoofer, technically not a speaker. Sorry I meant 5 speaker slots, and yes 6 total slots.

There is no way to activate the speakers... What are you trying to play through them? I just realized you probably aren't playing anything that is supposed to use all 5 speakers. Make sure you are in a mode on the player that uses all 5 speakers (or just put in a dvd that has surround sound - dolby digital) and it will show you all 5 are working.

    Thanks

Maybe you didn't even realize but just to reiterate - all 5 speakers work ONLY if the source that you are playing is meant to utilize them. Most sources are going to be only 2 channels aka 2 speakers.

Put a DVD in that has dolby digital encoded on it, most any retail DVD will.... That will enable dolby digital mode. Otherwise you can force modes with the remote, something like a MODE button, just try them until you see all the speaker icons light up. But you may not want to do this, usually you want it to pick the mode for you based on what you are listening to / watching. I would just hook all the speakers up, and put in a DVD with Dolby Digital...

No it shouldn't be, do you have a MODE button on your remote? It sounds like it is stuck in a mode only allowing those 3 channels... I doubt the machine has failed, but it is possible.

Let me know on the remote, I am still researching this

You get surround sound only if you hook up your Optical out from your TV to the Optical IN on the HT-H4500 using an optical audio cable. You may have to buy such a cable if one was not included with the TV or the home theater.

Follow the link below and click on the Manual tab.

How to I get my surround sound speakers to work with the cable box?

One way would be to connect one of the the digital audio outputs to the HT as an input (HDMI or optical digital audio).

Another would be to select one of the DSP modes that uses surround speakers. They work with all input modes.

Look on the subwoofer. Does it have an upmix switch? If not, you cannot upmix the stereo to all speakers. You can also check your TV menu options to see if it has the upmix feature (or similar).

have you connected the optical cable. as the only way to get sound from the tv to the surround is via that link. the hdmi cable only send video and audio to the tv not both ways for some reason.

HOME THEATER SAMSUNG HT-Q100

Your systemn is designed and built to perform 2.1 sound. If you want 5.1 sound you can do 2 things, connect another pair of speakers to the same speakerterminal as your front speakers, however this produces 5.1 stereo sound and not 5.1 surround sound.
You can buy a new system that has the proper connections.

This set will not have the proper decoding software to produce 5.1 surroundsound. sorry.
