Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

I have a Hoover Windtunnel Dual V. The vacuum and I did a tumble down stairs and the handle release pedal was broken. Is that something I can order a part for and have my husband put on? If so, where would I obtain the part? Thanks. Roxanna Kindler ekindler@bresnan.net

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

Yes, you can purchase the part @ any Hoover factory authorized store or your local vacuum dealer in your area and I also will give you some suggestions listed below. If you check your owner’s manual the part can be replaced by your husband if he is handy or otherwise refer to a vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Need to preplace handle release pedal

To remove the old pedal, simply insert a screwdriver along it's outside edge, and pry upward to pop it out. The new pedal, (#38434026) can be pushed into place with your fingers. Install it with the handle in the upright position.

Foot controlled handle release lever is broken. Where to get parts?

I had same problem - the foot release pedal would not spring into place when unit was upright (but would work if you nudged in place with your foot). I installed a replacement part, and it didn't fix the problem. I cut out a small sqare of sponge and jammed it behind the flat end of the bent plastic spring on the release pedal, and it now springs back as it shoud. Hope this helps.

Stand up lever is plastic, broke when stepped on to release handle, can it be repaired, replaced with a better one, plastic breaks too easily?

The pedal release can be replaced but the base will need to be checked for cracks as well. if the base is broken most common is the socket the pedal release snaps into. some of the plastic parts have been made with better materials

Foot latch is broken. need to replace with new one. how does one access to remove the foot pedal latch. By foot latch, I mean the foot lever that releases the upright to lower the handle and begin...

it is accessed from the bottom underneath by the rear wheel. However, If there are and cracks on the pedal release socket area then the base will need replacement. parts are little cost but the unit needs to be completely disassembled.

Front drops down when lifted

MaryEllen, This vac is only $250 to replace. By your description, the part you may have broken is called a pedal release lever. Very inexpensive to replace, under $7.00; Yes, you can replace it yourself, it does not go in too easy or the old one may not come out too easy. I would suggest that someone you trust that is handy look at it. I would also make sure the socket in which the pedal snaps into has not been damaged or cracked. You can inspect it with a light by turning it over. if there are cracks or damage to the base unit, the cost is higher but can be cost effective for repair
