Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

3 Answers

My C6180 keeps going "offline" all the time. What are potential causes of this? The wireless signal is strong. I open up the adminstration and it shows that the printer is "offline" but I click it to be on "online" another "offline" (two) shows up!! It is driving me crazy. Thanks Bernie

The wireless security is set to WPA with the cipher to auto, any other suggestions? In the HP manual, it recommends shutting down and restarting and/or disconnecting and reconnecting to the network, this used to work but even now that is uncertain of correcting the problem.

That sounds like a bug in your Windows software... it shouldn't ever seen a wireless printer as offline, all it knows is the IP address of the printer, and it doesn't "ping" it or anything to verify it's still up. Something strange is going on with your windows... You may want to completely uninstall all printer software and reinstall, that would be where I would start.

Hi! Please try this. Unplug the printer from power source and press the power button for 10secs. while unplugged. This should reset the system and resolve the problem. Plug the printer to power source, turn it on and see how it goes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Hi,

Set your wireless security to WPA with the cipher set to auto. If you have the cipher set to TKIP, the printer won't stay connected.

Even if you set the printer to use TKIP and the router to use TKIP, it won't hook up, and if it does, it won't stay connected.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

I've been able to print from my laptop wireless to printer HP C6180. Only lately, printer was unable to get wireless signal. My other desktop could print wireless to HP C6180. I tried uninstall driver...

In this situation your wireless printer might require a power reset before you print each document. Though the printing activity will take place efficiently you will have to physically go and power the printer to enable it to print. This problem might require you to reload the firmware of the router and set the wireless printer to manual IP address in order to make it work seamlessly no matter how many documents you have to print.

My printer wont print

As the device is connected wirelessly, make sure there is no interference in wireless communication. Also you can try to set pritner status online by right clicking on printer icon. Also try to  use the cd again and do an add a device.

HP Photosmart C6180 goes Offline in Vista

Solution A:

Download and install this Critical Update for your printer directly from HP.

Solution B:

There have been cases where if the PC is turned off or goes into hibernate this can occur. To work around this issue the "HP CUE DeviceDescovery Service" must be disabled:

1) Click on the "Start Menu" icon on the bottom left corner of the screen, type "services.msc" in the "Start Search" edit box, and hit enter. This will trigger Vista to pop-up a "User Account Control" dialog to prompt for permission to continue. Click "Continue" to allow Vista to open the Services management console application.

2) The Services management console application is made up of 2 panels. The right panel contains a list of all services available on the system. Scroll thru this list and look for a service called "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service".

3) Right-click on "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service" and select "Properties" to open the "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service Properties" dialog.

4) From the "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service Properties" dialog, click on the "General" tab. If the "Service status" shows that the service has started, click on the "Stop" button to force the service to stop.

5) Change the "Start type" to "Disabled" and click on the "OK" button on the bottom of the dialog to apply the changes.

Solution C:

1. Set the printer to a static IP address
2. Logon to the machine as the administrator or with admin rights.
3. Remove/Reinstall the printer using the IP address

Wireless connection keeps falling

It may be just a problem of the signal bouncing around and your laptop is struggling at times to find the signal. Some earlier laptops don't have a wireless booster built in the screen. Go to your laptops' web site and see if there are any updated drivers for your wireless card. If still unhappy with results purchase a USB wireless dongle and dissable wireless card, it may have a better reception area, or purchase a signal booster that works in conjunction with your wireless router.
