Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have windows vista home basic, and internet connection. I don't know much how it works. I don't even know what a toolbar is, certainly not what all these icons mean. Can you direct me to a SIMPLE explanation website, or a book I can buy from AMazon (I live in Prague, CzR), so at least I know enough to read and understand the adverts before I buy an online course. I also have skype and would like to make more use of it.

Cant connect to the internet

Your TCP/IP stack may be corrupted. This can be caused by malware or by the installation of networking software. This also cuold be the result of disinfection of spyware.

Click START...type CMD in the search box. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to run the command prompt as an administrator. Next type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt window then press Enter.

Type exit then hit Enter. Restart your computer and try connecting to the Internet. If this fix doesn't work you may need to remove the PCTOOLS program...instructions are at this link.

Certain anti-malware programs have been known to corrupt the winsock catalog unwittingly.

Good Luck!

Each time I clik on my internet browse ask come on my screen and will not allow me into my programs how do i delete ask as i do not want it it just showed up on my pc and i do not know why

HI, You can simply uninstall the program "Ask Toolbar" from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (for Windows XP) or Programs and Features in Control Panel (Windows Vista and Windows 7). This will certainly solve your issue. If you still happen to get the pop-up, you can open Internet Options from Control Panel and click on Programs Tab. Click on Manage Add-ons and disable Ask Toolbar from the list and restart your internet browser. Hope the solution works for you.
Cheers!

My Internet Explorer Wont Work!!

Firstly, I assume you are connected to the internet.
If you are running a firewall make sure that the firewall is not blocking I.E access to the internet.

If you are not running a firewall (which you should be) can you send a receive information packets?
To check this, you'll need to open up a command prompt windows (start-all programs-accessories)

type: ping www.google.com

after a few moment you should see something like:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ebd0991.jpg

the numbers may vary a little but the point is that you get a reply. At this point you know you are able to send and receive over the internet. CHECK FIREWALL

If you get:

5b141d5.jpg

or a "request timed out"

This shows that you cannot send or receive data. You'll need to check your LAN connection/cable/router etc.

But do check firewall settings first.
