Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I appear to need a Microtemp SMCASU G4A00 240c. I had no idea what it was for sure until I Googled it. I suspected it was a fuse. I have no continuity either way. It is from a George Foreman grill that is like new. Where can I get such a critter?

How to replace a fuse

You need to remove the mains plug, remove the top cover of the oven. Make sure that you do not touch any capacitors within that can hold charge. Check the fuse on the mains power section. If blown replace with same type , move off and test on a load trip circuit as precaution. If the fuse blows then the there is short within, the magnetron, surge filters, mains capacitors and main capacitor can be a suspect.

check the unit ceramic fuse located under the outer cover, its a 15 or 20 amp ceramic cartridge fuse in a clip, if the new one blows suspect one of many things,h.v. diode, capacitor, magnetron, shorted wire to case, thermal cutoff staying open.etc.,yes you can get a manual from Appliance Parts Pros web-site

GE SpacemakerXL Microwave blowing fuse

If its blowing fuses more than likely there is a short somewhere. Make sure you are putting the required size fuse in. Also never put in a higher than recommended amp fuse you could catch the house on fire.Unhook the fan motor and see if the microwave will run. Anything can be fixed but the cost of doing so may be more trying to fix, but really it could be cheaper to buy a new one instead of trying to fix that one. IMO

GE Spacesaver microwave model: JVM1653sf001

It could be the Magnetron. First, If the unit is out of warranty, you can try to remove the rear cover (make sure unit is unplugged) and see if there is a blown fuse in the section that powers the Magetron. If all the fuses are good, I would suspect a faulty Magnetron. The Magnetron is the microwave tube which makes the food cook. They are not too difficult to replace. MCM Electronics sells them and you can call them with your model and they can find a replacement for you will be able to see how much it will cost.
