Question about Amana ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

My pull out freezer (on the bottom of my fridge) leaks water onto the floor. Apparently water pools inside and freezes on the bottom of the freezer and then melts and leaks out? Any ideas? Thanks!

do you mean inside the fridge or freezer, to peel off the back cover? And this is from the inside?

  • cljy Oct 04, 2010

okay now that I have the shelves out I see the water tank for the dispenser is frozen and it will not dispense water. BTW the model number is ARB2257C

  • cljy Oct 04, 2010

defrosting in progress. I was mistaken about the water dispenser. It wasn't pumping because I unplugged the fridge. okay, found the venting in the bottom of the panel. Where do I find the drain hole? Hate to sound stupid but I think I've looked in some of the obvious places.

  • cljy Oct 04, 2010

When I pour hot water into the venting it cascades inside the back of the freezer. Don't see a drainhole in the bottom of the freezer or fridge.

  • cljy Oct 04, 2010

okay taking the back panel off, finally understanding what you're talking about. Sorry I'm a bit slow...

okay my son found a hunk of food in the drain pipe. I think this will fix it. Thanks

Hi,

sounds like your defrost drain is frozen over. When the refrigerator is going into defrost it's draining through the front instead of the drain pan. You can remove the shelves and peel off the back cover and clear the drain by pouring hot water on the frozen drain hole. If you have a baster of some sort you could try to squirt the hot water through the venting on the bottom of the panel. Another way to to point a hair dryer on the drain hole. The best method is to remove the shelves and panel and make sure the drain is clear.

Auto-defrost refrigerators I've seen usually pipe the defrosted water from the back of the compartment through a short pipe and onto an open receptacle mounted on the compressor. The heat of the compressor evaporates this small quantity invisibly.

If the pipe is blocked or leaking, or the receptacle has a hole, it might be dripping straight onto the floor instead. If seen situations where the pipe becomes blocked with small bits of food detritus etc. Try gently poking something long and flexible - a bit of wire, perhaps, into the hole and see if you encounter an obstruction.

If not, you will need to get behind the machine and verify that the meltwater is being correctly deposited into the catcher container on the compressor, and that the container is watertight.

What is wrong when your side by side refrig. leaks from inside the freezer

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

Frigidaire Fridge Freezer forms huge iceblock inside fridge back wall. It freezes up whatever is stored in fridge i.e. vegtables, cheese. Water leaks onto the floor from under the vegetable containers. ...

the defrost drain pan is plugged up,you need to defrost it and run a wire down the drain tray hole so it can drain to the bottom as it defrosts otherwise it defrosts and runs everywhere else and re freezes

Water setteling on bottom of freezer side and freezing also leaking. 2 fridges both doing the same thing . leaking on the inside and freezing and underneath water is leaking.

Clean out the defrost drain. There is a drain in the freezer that lets all the defrost water run under the fridge. If that gets clogged then all the water runs into the freezer and can even leak onto the floor

Water pools at bottom of freezer, freezes and water leaks out

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove bottom shelf from fridge and remove the styrofoam..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Mike
