Question about Lucent ORiNOCO RG-1000 Internet Gateway

1 Answer

The cd that came with the lucent rg-1000 router i have is too old for my current windows 7 so i cannot install the software. The network appears in my wireless connections but every time i try to connect it asks for a security key and when i enter the key that is on the router it says that it is not the right one. Is there any way to solve this problem.

There is a program called "FreeBase" that is written in Visual Basic that I've used on Windows Server 2008 successfully, but haven't tried on Windows 7. Give it a try:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freebase/

Click "View all files" and download "freebase10.exe." Alternatively, you can download it via it's URL:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freebase/files/freebase/1.0/freebase10.exe/download

Also check out:

http://freebase.sourceforge.net/

It's a bit out of date, but there are some useful links in there.

Hope this gets you squared away!

The cd only has the drivers that were available when the printer shipped. You download the latest one here:

And yes, it does have drivers for both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7

SETTING UP A WIRELESS PRINTER WITHOUT A WIRELESS ROUTER - WINDOWS 7
Install Virtual Router first "Turn any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot Spot."
EditByBSEditor: Virtual Router turns any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot SPOT using Windows 7's Wireless Hosted Network (Virtual Wifi) technology.
The Wireless Network Create/shared with Virtual Router uses WPA2 Encryption, and there is not way to turn off that encryption. This is actually a feature of the Wireless Hosted Network API's built into Windows 7 and 2008 R2 to ensure the best security possible.
You can give your "virtual" wireless network any name you want, and also set the password to anything. Just make sure the password is at least 8 characters. http://www.brothersoft.com/virtual-router-327895.html Then install Connectify-Me Connectify is an easy to use software router for Windows 7 computers. After downloading and installing the lightweight application, Connectify utilizes your computers' built in Wi-Fi card to wirelessly share any available Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption. http://www.connectify.me/ Then reboot computer

Are there new drivers for teh Wireless G Plus MIMO USB adapters for windows 7?

From Belkin's Support web site: Windows 7 Product Support Information Windows 7 users:
If you are using an older Belkin Networking product, you may not have support for Windows 7 with your current software. Please visit your product specific support site to check for updated Windows 7-compatible software for your product.
Software updates will be posted as they become available. Please check back if your product is not currently supported.
Some updates may still be in the process of going through Microsoft’s official certification program. Although they have been thoroughly tested, they may present a warning message when the driver is being installed. These drivers will install on 32 bit operating systems but not on 64 bit systems, which is the normal and expected behavior.

2wire homeportal 1000hw cannot find wireless address

Windows 7 (Beta) and Windows Vista 64 Bit. Step 1. Do not allow the autostartup to run the installation application. You must right click on the CD ROM and select the "OPEN" option. Locate the driver on the install CD. Since my DVD ROM drive is my "D:" drive I located the driver at D:\USB_VISTA32364\BACKUP_2WIRE_VISTA_USB_Installer.exe . Before you click on this you want to right click on this and select Properties. In the properties tab click on the middle tab marked "Compatibility". Make sure you select the checkmark box to: Run this program in compatibility mode for: and use the pull down menu to select Windows XP SP2. This is how I was able to get my 2wire utility to work on Windows 7 (beta) 64 Bit.

Installing a linksys router with a u-verse RG.

Hi sgolob48,

First, make sure that the wireless network capability ofthe U-Verse RG is diabled (since you're using the Linksys for that purpose).

Second, make sure the ethernet cabel from the back of the RG connects to an LAN port on the Linksys (NOT the Linksys's WAN port).

Finally, disable the DHCP feature on the Linksys (since DHCP should be active on the U-VerseRG). Here's how:
1) Install the Linksys software on your computer and open your internet browser.
2) Type the URL 192.168.1.1 (default for Linksys access ponts).
3) You'll be asked to enter a username and password. The default is username "admin" and password either "admin" or [blank].
4) Once you've logged in, scroll down on the basic settings page (the one that loads automatically) to where it says Network Address Server Settings (DHCP). Click the radio button next to Disable, then click Save Settings at the bottom.

What you've basically done is make the Linksys another computer in your network, and the one that others will connect to the RG through.

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H
