Question about Computers & Internet

4 Answers

We have an Acer d250 netbook, after a long car ride we discovered that the computer went dead. Power light comes on and fan runs for about 3 sec. no HDD light, no monitor, nothing. Already did a complete power drain, no luck, after opening it up a little it looks like maybe some liquid got in it, it has aired out completely but still has same prob. do u think it is a total loss or will a bios reboot maybe work? when I press FN+esc+power the fan stays on, please help me this is my daughters netbook and I feel horrible for her. If a bios reboot might work can you walk me through the process? I have a flashdrive. thanks

I do not believe that any liquid reached the motherboard. or components. I only saw some stickyness around the covers for the HDD and memory.

If you don't see anything on the LCD or if there's no display, then you can't boot from the USB unless you find out and fix the root of the cause. I am not sure about the Liquid or other materials, but as you've mentioned "after a long car ride...." some components might have loosened or disconnected from the motherboard. I would assume myself as the Ram. I hope everything's ok with the power like your charger and your battery, (is the charging properly taken?).

One question here,, Can you Power it Off? or do you remove the battery to switch if Off?

First, disconnect the power cable, remove all other devices (if any, like usb devices, memory card, cd/dvd, etc..), remove the battery. Now keep it on the table with the Back side Up and look for the memory compartment (Ram Cover), there must be two screws holding the cover and the cover must be labelled as "Memory Compartment" or "Memory...."...... Unscrew the screws and remove the cover. Now remove the Ram/s very carefully, there should be two clips on both sides of the Ram stick, push the clips outward with your two hands and the Ram stick will slightly swing up, that time you can release the clips and pull out the ram.
You can watch the video tutorial here ::

After they Ram is (or Ram are), uninstalled, clean it/them with a Rubber Eraser (pencil eraser), Clean the Gold Contacts properly as you. Again reinstall the Ram very carefully and make sure they are seated and fitted properly. Now put back the battery and power on the Laptop (don't close the Ram cover, if in case you need to check them once again). If the problem persists, you need turn off the machine (of simply remove the battery) and remove one of them rams (If there are two sticks). Try again and swap the ram if possible.

If this doesn't help, let me know with my few queries (mentioned above) and with more details about the laptop configuration or operating system's name, etc..

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Please use your hair dryer on it WITHOUT HEAT. If you use heat then you will toast it. Blow air into it for a long time to ensure that there no trace of water left inside. Then contact me again.

Hi! I doubt that the bios will work if there was moisture in it. The motherboard surely got short circuit thats why its not working properly. We will be facing a motherboard replacement here for it to work normally again. Hope this shed some light.

Base from the description of your problem and from the details that you provided us , the issue here now is a hardware failure on your motherboard cause by the liquid that spilled on it and the only way to correct the problem is to have the motherboard replace.

Thank you for the additional information, if that will be the case what you can do here is to open the laptop and blow some more air on it and then once you;re sure that its already dry , I need you to check first all the connection from motherboard going to your hard drive and all the connection there better if you do unplug and replug all the connection from the motherboard.

If the laptop is completely dry , do the checking of all the connections from the mother and make sure everything are still connected properly, then take the RAM out and then power on the laptop without RAM and check if it will give you ant beep code, if yes power off the laptop and put the RAM back in and power it back on.

My Acer D250 netbook starts show a white screen the reboots it self, sometimes it not only shows white screen but also gray or it run colourful lines then it restart. When it restart it start working fine...

Suggest using Acer eRecovery Management to attempt problem resolution as follows...
1. begin with the D250 powered off ...
2. if present, remove any external monitor (unplug its VGA connector from D250 left side)
3. power on and immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS / setup utility
4. using the right cursor key, cursor over to the Main tab of the InsydeH20 Setup Utility
5. if D2D Recovery is not enabled, cursor down to it, press Enter key and enable in pop-up
6. save any changes by pressing F10 to save and exit, otherwise press Esc to just exit
7. press Alt and F10 together while the Acer logo is showing to get entry into eRecovery.
8. eRecovery entry is indicated by message at bottom of screen "Windows is loading files...".
9. if not successful, power off, wait a minute then power on again and immediately
10. press Alt and F10 at the same time - do this several times while Acer logo showing.
11. once in Acer eRecovery Management (V7.0.10) screen, just leave it there........
12. if after a day or so, the screen has not changed, the problem is likely NOT hardware.
13. on the other hand, if your screen problem occurs after awhile, then it is hardware.
14. if it is not hardware, then your Operating System is likely corrupt or has a virus.
15. If it is not a hardware problem, you can completely restore system to factory defaults.
16. board level hardware repairs best done by sending D250 to Acer's authorized shops.

My Acer Aspire one D250-1938 shows a blank screen only. Maybe it somehow stuck in hibernation mode. Have forced shutdown and restarted, tried F5, F6, F7, but still no screen. Any suggestions?

Try remove the battery, let it for 30 minutes without it, then plug it again the battery, then turn it on.

If still won't work, remove again the battery, wait till 30 minutes, the plug the charger, don't use the battery yet, then turn it on.If it works, you can plug in the battery again.

UNABLE TO SWITCH ON WIRELESS SWITCH. IT SLIDES TO RIGHT BUT LIGHT NOT ON

Happens with Acer laptops running Vista. Deadly combo--buggy O/S and bad system.

Power off the computer (not restart). wait a minute then power on the computer.

No display upon opening my netbook

that is a good sign that your system board has went out. you can try to remove everything like the cdrom, hard drive and battery and see if it will reboot then. or even remove the cmos battery with the power unplugged and everythig removed/ wait a little and then plug in the power cord only and see if it will come up.
