Question about Computers & Internet
If you don't see anything on the LCD or if there's no display, then you can't boot from the USB unless you find out and fix the root of the cause. I am not sure about the Liquid or other materials, but as you've mentioned "after a long car ride...." some components might have loosened or disconnected from the motherboard. I would assume myself as the Ram. I hope everything's ok with the power like your charger and your battery, (is the charging properly taken?).
One question here,, Can you Power it Off? or do you remove the battery to switch if Off?
First, disconnect the power cable, remove all other devices (if any, like usb devices, memory card, cd/dvd, etc..), remove the battery. Now keep it on the table with the Back side Up and look for the memory compartment (Ram Cover), there must be two screws holding the cover and the cover must be labelled as "Memory Compartment" or "Memory...."...... Unscrew the screws and remove the cover. Now remove the Ram/s very carefully, there should be two clips on both sides of the Ram stick, push the clips outward with your two hands and the Ram stick will slightly swing up, that time you can release the clips and pull out the ram.
You can watch the video tutorial here ::
After they Ram is (or Ram are), uninstalled, clean it/them with a Rubber Eraser (pencil eraser), Clean the Gold Contacts properly as you. Again reinstall the Ram very carefully and make sure they are seated and fitted properly. Now put back the battery and power on the Laptop (don't close the Ram cover, if in case you need to check them once again). If the problem persists, you need turn off the machine (of simply remove the battery) and remove one of them rams (If there are two sticks). Try again and swap the ram if possible.
If this doesn't help, let me know with my few queries (mentioned above) and with more details about the laptop configuration or operating system's name, etc..
Thanks for using FixYa.

Please use your hair dryer on it WITHOUT HEAT. If you use heat then you will toast it. Blow air into it for a long time to ensure that there no trace of water left inside. Then contact me again.
