Hello,
Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running thru them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look ok the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.

Good luck.....

Ice maker stopped making ice. Red light is flashing. Temperature is below freezing. We've already replaced icemaker and the refrigerator is not even 6 years old.

Ok open your freezer door and observe the flashing red light now push the flapper inwards keeping your finger and hand out of the way of the infa-red sensors you should observe the light it should not flash but glow steady if it does not a fairly simple attempt would be remove the 3 screws on that assembly pulling it away from its location and unplug the harness, now go to the other side and remove those screws and unplug the harness reassemble both sensors and screw back into place push the flapper back in is the red light steady? No then you will need a infa-reds sensor kit I believe they are now well over 100.00. I do hope clearing the pcb on the sensor by unplugging the harness works but if not you now know how to replace the infa-red sensor.........And if the light is working steady and no ice is in the imkr then fill with water and off you go....

Ice maker will not make ice. everything in installed properly. unit is 7 years old. red light flashes twice, then pauses and flashes twice again.

in the door ice storage. this is complicated. might check at the bottom of ref. there is a removable toe panel and on the back of the toe panel usually there is wiring diagram & mini manual to help diagnose icemaker problems.

Icemaker not working- red light flashes constantly

The red light should flash twice , pause then flash twice constantly . If you close the flap on the left side , then the light should go off . This shows the optics (ice maker cut off ) are good .

Check the black tube ( fill tube ) , which puts water into the ice maker , to see if it is iced inside . If so , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . It seeps into the tube and freezes , blocking the water flow .

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then the water valve needs replaced . If it doesn't dump , and stays frozen in the ice maker , replace the ice maker . Also , make sure the coils under the front of the refrig are clean , as this will cause warmer temp in the freezer and the ice maker needs 5 degrees to operate .

Ice maker stopped working

The laser , is supposed to blink . This laser , tells the icemaker to stop making ice , when the bin is full . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker . If it doesn't dump the cubes into the bin , the icemaker is bad . Or , if there is ice in the bin , which hasn't dumped , the icemaker is bad . If the icemaker dumps the ice ( from water pour ) , then look above the fill cup , and see if the black fill tube is frozen . If so , then replace the water valve and turn the freezer temp down slightly . It will take several days for this fill line inside freezer to thaw . If icemaker dumps , and black tube NOT frozen , replace the water valve . The valve , is where the wall water line connects to on the refrig .

Some precautions before diagnosing the icemaker optics system since there are two different sets of emitter-receiver optics boards and therefore two entirely different procedures for emitter-receiver optics board diagnosis. This could get really tricky especially when the appropriate tech sheet isn’t handily available. To determine which optics diagnostic procedure should be employed, open the freezer door and observe the right side (mullion or partition side) LED status light. If the red LED is NOT flashing two repeating pulses, this usually indicates the older style emitter-receiver optics boards are used and its specific diagnosis procedure should be employed. But then again, this could also mean that the new optics system IS used but the icemaker just happens to be in the harvest mode - OR - the LED (optics receiver) has failed in some bizarre twist of fate. However, keeping the above cautions in mind, we can assume that normally the older emitter-receiver optics system will NOT have its red LED status light flashing each time the freezer door is opened, while the NEW style optics WILL have its red LED status light double pulsing at each door opening.

The ice coating usually means that your door was left slightly open. Did the ice maker work after you cleaned up the ice?

Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.
