Jumper Setting I was told that the faster CD/DVD burner should be placed at the slave position for the sake of speed stability of data burning whenas 2 CD/DVD burners are on the same channel. Please tell me if it is correct ? Thank you for expertise !

    Ul_haq:

    Thank you for your comments.

Let me restate my problem with more details for your understanding.

My 4 storage devices were configured in following manner:

<1.CD burner bought about in 2003, branded AOpen, set as Secondary Master>

<2.DVD burner bought in 2006, branded LG, set as Secondary Slave>

<3.IDE hardisk, branded Seagate, set as Primary Master>

<4.SATA hardisk-(boot disk), branded Seagate, set as SATA1>

P.S. My DVD burner is a more recent model, its READ/WRITE speed is faster than that of the CD burner.

My CD burner is currently physically installed on top of DVD burner at upper slots of the chasis.

Owing to limit distance between master and slave connector on both 80-pin IDE cable, the Primary Slave connector cannot not reach neither two burners. Therefore CD and DVD burner were compelled to be connected on Secondary IDE cable.

My concern is which burner should be set as Master in order to achieve optimal performance and stablity; especailly when a data disc inside either burner is being copied to a blank disc inside another burner ? (Copy On-The-Fly)

My impression is that the burner with faster READ/WRITE speed be set as Slave but I am sure.

Any comment from anyone is welcome and great appreciated !

Vista Ultimate Copy

Have you tried to burn by disc copy? If you have, you need to also try and make an iso image.

Use DVD-R discs as well. If you have already tried this, just post a response and I'll get back to you.

Hi .. my dvd drive not detecting any cd or dvd wat to do?? aow reinstall bcos its not detecting any cd

If you have only one drive, make sure that it is connected at the end of secondary ribbon cable of the motherboard and make sure that the jumper is set to master. If it still dosen't work you may have to write down the make and model of the cd drive and download a driver, also make sure that it is identified in the system bios on the secondary IDE channel. Another thing you could try, depending on your O/S, XP for example. Go into control-panel+system+devices+"selected drive"+update driver. In some cases, depending on your system, you may have to save the device to a floppy & install it in DOS

My Computer does not want to run the programm

Hello there,

Have you check the CD Drive if its a DVD R(RW) or a CD R(RW)... and have you also check the CD Disc if its a CD or a DVD.?

If your Drive is just a CD R/RW it will not read a DVD Disc, and if your Drive is a DVD it should read both, and if it reads other Disc the problem must be on the CD.

Jumper settings.

You have to be careful here with these switches and settings. If you have an IDE motherboard and cabling and drives, the boot drive should be MASTER on IDE0, plugged into the end of the cable, with (probably) the CD drive plugged into the middle connector of the same cable and set to SLAVE. The other two hard drives connect one as MASTER and the other as SLAVE on IDE1, with MASTER on the end of the cable. The jumper settings for all four devices will be different, so look carefully on the device to make sure you set the jumpers correctly.

Do all this with the machine unplugged of course. :>)

Good luck...

Help with a vonnage mp3 player

YES YES and YES! if it's an iPod you won't be able to use anything used with Windows Media Player. If it's a Zune you won't be able to use anything to do with iTunes. However if it's something different your probably going to have to use their software.

If you want to make it simple use the media players in Ultumix Linux that don't restrict your music to just one kind of player. You just plug in the mp3 device and power it on and you can transfer files back and forth like a jump drive.

If you want to do it the hard way (the Micro$oft Mac way) use the software that comes with your device and read the directions.

If you want Ultumix do the following:

If you have a Desktop PC connected directly to the internet (not dial up) and a DVD burner I would recommend you go to www.mindblowingidea.com, click Ultumix, and give it a try by saving the Torrent Download Link. Then go to www.download.com and install uTorrent. You will also need to go to www.burn4free.com and install it as well. Make sure to open burn4free after installing it as well and select English. Then you may close it. Open the torrent file you downloaded in uTorrent. After you save the .iso file to your hard drive (this may take an hour or a day) right click on the .iso file and click burn4free and then Burn ISO. You will need a DVD-R or DVD+R in your DVD drive. DVD-R is recommended. After this reboot your computer and make sure to boot from the DVD drive. You may need to press additional keys during start up to get this to happen. You will see a menu that says PCLinuxOS 2007. Select LiveCD and press enter (this mode will let you try Ultumix without installing it on your hard drive). Now it will ask you some questions about your computer like what language you speak. You will most likely use Ethernet as your internet. Now you will see a screen to log in.

To try Ultumix without installing it to see what it will be like click on Owner and then type owner all lower case in the password field and press the enter key on your keyboard. Please note that it will run much slower than normal in Live Mode. When you install it it will run much faster. If you try the programs on the desktop and like them you may want to install it. We will get to that later. Open the icon marked internet and use it to get to www.hotmail.com. Get into your e-mail. If that works you should be happy. At this point I would like to point out that even though this system can't get viruses or fragmentation (unless you fill the partition over 95%) Firefox can be affected by some spyware and or trojans. If this should occur you simply click Tools > Clear All Private Data > check everything > Clear All Private Data Now.

If you want to install this on your computer you can also leave Windows on as well but you will be asked if you want to run both during setup. Click start and log out. Now click the root account and type in root all lower case. Click Install PCLinuxOS. Go threw the wizard and follow the instructions. You have the option of resizing your Windows partition and using the rest for Ultumix or erase everything and start over. Ultumix can run most windows 95, 98, and 2000 programs in WINE. You will also find that it can run some XP programs as well like Office 2003.

Have fun. If you still want to live with Micro$oft software reply to me again and I will walk you threw the painful process of protecting your computer. You will need to repeat this process I give you every 12 months or less to keep your computer running. You should also be told that in 6 months Microsoft is planning to stop extending service to XP users.
