Question about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro SDCZ62048A10 Hard Drive

Unable to read SD cards

I had an SD card in an Imagemate SD and a SanDisk Cruzer enterprise simultaneously connected to my Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with Vista Business, SP1. Now, no matter what I do, including deleting the drive letters out of the registry that the Cruzer was using, I am unable to read the SD cards. Thus I can’t transfer photos from my camera to my PC. The camera is a Casio. I’ve also tried connecting the Casio directly to the computer through a USB cable and no luck.

What do you suggest?

Thanks. There was no entry marked SD card, no duplicate, no entry for anything except the hard drive. I agree that the drive letters got mixed up, especially since the cruzer grabs two of them, but that doesn't help undo the damage.

Did that long before I posted this problem. No help at all. Sorry.

Great suggestion. I didn't know that the restore feature existed. Unfortunately, restore won't let me undo SP1 (wish I hadn't installed it!) and so I can't restore the system before the problem occurred. You should also know that if I try to boot the PC with the card installed, the hard drive won't work. Depending on what's going on, having the SD card in the USB port may send the PC into a loop.

Yes, both the cruzer and the SD cards work fine on another PC. I borrowed a friend's PC to get the photos off several weeks ago, but now I have new ones.

  • emersonm May 29, 2008

No, thank you. I'm not comfortable sharing data with someone I don't know.

  • emersonm May 31, 2008

I didn't have anything plugged in. Vista only allows a restore back a couple of days and I need to restore the system back a couple of months. I uninstalled SP1 and another hotfix to no avail. I could really use an informed recommendation, not just random guesses. My suspicion is that there's conflicting information in the registry somewhere, but I can't find it.

Yes, of course I know I can do that. However, I'm concerned about all that it would wipe out. I was hoping for a more specific solution.

Try doing a system restore first on your computer by going into your Control Panel inside Performance and Maintenance and set this back to a day before this problem occurred. This should fix it and will keep all files, pictures and anything else you put on the computer after the restore point and it is also reversible. Let me know how this goes and if it doesn't work, then I have other options that we can try. good luck and please let me know of any questions or concerns that you may have with this

so the system restore won't run or an error comes up, unplug the unit that is causing the problem and try restoring the system

Are you sure that there aren't any restore points at a random day a few months back, the computer may make one every once in a while and it would be worth checking out

Plug the SD card into your computer.

Right-click on "Computer" and select "Manage"

Select "Disk Management"

Find the entry for your SD card (it might have no drive letter, or a duplicate drive letter). Right click on the SD card entry and select "Change Drive Letter" Change it to an available drive letter.

Your card should now be accessible.

I'm guessing that the drive letters were mixed up by the U3 virtual-CD-Rom nonsense on the Sandisk Cruzer.

There's actually three devices in this problem matrix: the Cruzer, the SD card, and the Imagemate.

Sorry to be so pedantic, but when you say that the SD card worked in a friends computer, did you plug it in there using your Imagemate, or through some other method? (I want to figure out if we know whether the Imagemate is functioning correctly).

Also, you've said that if you boot with the SD card plugged into the USB port through the Imagemate, you have problems. Could you try booting with just the Imagemate plugged in, but without any SD card installed?

Try pluging it to another usb port, check device manager for error messages.

Right click on computer -> select manage -> on left side select device manager

Note anything with a yellow ! mark.

How do i transfer my pictures on to 2gb sandisk

Hello there,
You have so many ways to do this. It depends on the function of your phone or camera. You can transfer it via bluetooth or if you have a memory card reader, you can insert the card given that its an SD card. If its the micro one, you need to get the microsd to sd adapter.
From there, you can manage your photos.
Good luck!

Once you plug the mini sd card into the usb device and plug the usb device into your computer it should show up as a hard drive in your My Computer area. If not you may have to initialize the hard drive.

I put the microcard SD into the usb 2.0 adapter. Then it shows that the removable disk is there on my computer. But when i click on it, it says please insert disk into drive G. disk is in there and it wont...

The USB adapter will be shown as different drives (depending on how many slots the adapter has) even if there is no SD card in the slot.

That being said, if the card is in the adapter, it's not able to be read.
Be sure the SD card is in the right slot and is in securely.

Make sure the card is not locked. It may be damaged and need to be reformatted.

It is most likely because your card is a SDHC (NEW ) and your reader is just a SD.

I guess you put the SD adapter into the card reader right out of the box? You first may have to partition/format it after unpacking it. Under WinXP I can recommend an utility "DiskPart" which you can start from the command prompt (Run... -> cmd). For further instructions (if it sounds to you to be the problem ) contact me again.
