Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer suddenly stopped heating

Most of the time when the dryer stops heating is fron a clogged up venting tubes that restrict the flow of the exhaust. The moister sensor detects that and keeps the heat in check.
I would clean the entire exhaust tubing thoroughly and recheck the operations of the heat flow. If this does not get this to work listen for the click of the electronic starter to ignited the burner if gas powered

Check the following areas to combat this issue. the most common problem spot will be a blown Thermal fuse.

1. Gas valve coils
Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

2. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

3. Igniter
Igniter may burn out or break. Replace the igniter if found defective.

Note: Igniters are very fragile and break easily. It is recommended to handle the igniter only touching the ceramic part of it (usually white in color).

4. Flame sensor (or radiant heat sensor)
Replace the sensor (located near the igniter) if found defective.

I have whirlpool dryer that the heat seems to kick on and off it is gas dryer

If heats for a few minutes then cuts off (heat) , then the 2 coils on the burner valve are probably bad . OR check the vent hose to the outside for good air flow . Sometimes , a dryer is pushed too far back , and it kinks the vent hose . If coils are bad , when dryer cools down , then restarting , cool coils will heat again for a few minutes , then stop heating till they cool off again .

Maytag gas dryer doesn't dry properly

SOUNDS LIKE A RESTRICTION IN THE VENT. CHECK AIR FLOW WHERE VENT EXITS HOUSE. IF IT IS NOT STRONG, INSPECT VENT LINE BEHIND DRYER. IS IT CRUSHED OR CLOGGED WITH LINT? THIS WILL CAUSE DRYER TO SHORT CYCLE. IF VENT IS NOT CLOGGED, CHECK AIR FLOW AT BACK OF DRYER WITH VENT DISCONNECTED. IS AIR FLOW STRONG? OF NOT, PROBLEM IS WITH BLOWER.

Speed Queen dryer does not heat...

you have weak gas valkve coils and they will work when cold but after a few cycles they become electrically open and will not allow the gas to flow.
just replace both gas valve coils and that will fix your problem.

FRIDGIDAIRE GAS DRYER MODEL # GLGR642AS2 IS NOT DRYING CLOTHES BUT GAS IS IGNITING. THANK YOU. DON

Hi Don,
So let me get this straight, you are getting heat from the gas burner and the drum rotates but your clothes remain wet? You can check a few basic things to identify where the problem lies.. First off, have you checked the lint trap and cleaned it? Secondly, have you checked your vent system ( meaning : are you sure it is not clogged anywhere in the duct or at the end where it exits outside? If that's OK.. when your system is drying clothes.. do you get hot air flow at the end of that duct? If not, your blower may not be working ..You need to move that hot air out of the tub for the system to dry. Heat, Motion to move clothes, air flow from the blower and an unimpeded path via the vent duct to outside.. Hope one of these things to check gets you going. Regards...
