Question about Comdial 6706X-PG Phone

2 Answers

I have four phones on the system, two 6714s and and two 6706x with four incoming lines. The led on one of the lines does not light on the two 6706x models. I pulled out the phone line of one of the troubled units and reconnected while pressing the mute button. All leds were lit so I know it isn?t an led light failure. If this some kind of programming issue?

This phone has no A/C adapter. I tried taking out the phone line and pressing the line button while re-inserting the phone line but this does not work.

I tried to re-insert the phone line while depressing the button that does not light. This did not help.

Thanks Carl, but I don't see anything in the manual relating to the led light going on or off. Can you tell me specifically what programming to try. I think the port was originally programmed for a 6714. How do I make it for a 6706 without clearing all of the phone programing?

It is. 6706's have funny mapping in that it's probably in a port programmed with and for a 6714. You can verify that if you plug the 6714 into the same jack and your 2 missing lines will show up :-)

Somewhere, like on my website, I have a progamming guide. If you check out pages 66 and 67 of the pdf, you'll see what the phones overlays and buttons map out to. If, somehow, that looks right and you have an XE system, then the programming section will guide you on how to map the buttons. The phone type for a 6706 and a 6714 is the same in software, just different buttons.

LOL. It's been a few years since I've programed one of these. Take a look a pdf page 48. Do you see the numbers on the buttons of a 6714 and a 6706? A 6714 is missing buttons B3-B5
and a 6706 is missing A5, A5 (and A7) A12,A13, (and A14). Programming access and mapping instructions begin on page 49 with 63 being the specific instructions for command 59. So, to get you started, from extension 10, plug in a 6714, and make note of where your 4 lines are. Now, from that same extension, press ITCM *#746* and dial 59.

Now you just have to figure out what buttons map where :-)

Oops, my proofreading skills failed. The A field is 5,6,7 and the 6714 is missing 4 B buttons.

Try reset the phone first, follow this steps or the out lined steps in the manual. Turn off the phone, remove the AC adapter, press and hold the page/call button that is on the phone and plug back your Ac adapter, this will fix the problem.

Take care.

After power outage incoming calls cause all lines to light up

If this is happening on the entire system, then make sure you have the number of lines programmed correctly. If this is correct you may have a bad processor card. If this is a happening on an extension only, then the port/card may be damaged I would temporarily move the extension to another port on a different card and see if the trouble follows. If it does you have an issue with the phone not the port/card.

If I'm understanding right, you are plugging in a regular "residential" phone into a phone system jack. The system phones work differently than home phones and you won't get a dial tone out of the jack unless you use a system phone.

Above is your setup manuals.

Unfortunately it is NOT just a simple job of moving the instrument, one has to reprogram the system to "Tailor" it to everything.

You need to use the manual and reprogram the system to it's new configuration.

Line 4 doesn't ring in coming call

The way 4 line phones work is that you need 4 lines on every jack that is connected to your phone.
You see the light probably because one of the phones has line conected and you see line appearance.

Incoming calls to office cause all phones to ring in classrooms

Changing ringing on a Partner system is done on either ext 10 or 11.
At one of those ext's press the feature key and "00"
Next press the left hand intercom twice
The display should say system programming

Press the right hand intercom once. The display should say Centralized Programming.

Enter in the extension number that you want to program.

Press the line that you want to ring.
A solid light on the line means immediate ringing
A slow flashing light means delayed ringing (meaning the phone will wait 3 rings before starting to ring.)
A fast flashing light means no ringing.

When finished with that station press the right hand intercom and enter in the next extension to program and set ringing accordingly.

Press feature "00" to logout
Hope that helps
