Ok. this is going to sound really stupid but how do u turn up the volume their is no volume wheel just a speaker symbol on the escape button i have tried pressing it holding it and pressing it with almost every key it doesnt work!
I'm going to make an assumption (assume=*** of u & me) that you are dealing with an Intel/Win machine.
If not, forget everything I wrote here.
It's helpful if you mention what your system and OS is.
You will need to click or double click on the speaker symbol on the task bar; if organized as common, it will be on the right.
On Win XP, a single click opens only the voulume control, double click gives you a detailed panel (different audio cards/chips look different since this is a software function) that allows you to control the level of different inputs or file types.
The presence of a speaker symbol on the escape button is kind of puzzling but may be a function of an extended keyboard that requires a manufacturer's device driver to be loaded when you boot.
That may not be loading.
(Some icons may require double clicks-)
If yes, then click on the Start menu, select Control Panel, then Sounds & Audio devices (or similar), this will show you if the sound is muted and let you select default volume level and tell you whose audio is installed.
If it looks OK, close the window and then click on the System icon, then Hardware, finally Device Manager.
Check the list for open folders that involve sound devices for any red 'X' on functions.
If you find one, then something hasn't been installed or turned on and since we don't know the exact system you have, it may require different methods of 'fixing' the problem and then you will need a friendly nerd nearby to help you.
