Dvd drive won't work

Click Start/My Computer and see if you see your DvD Drive listed. If not, that's a problem. If you see it listed Click Start/Control Panel/System then look for Device Manager. If your running Windows XP the Device Manager will be under the Hardware Tab. If the DVD/CD drive has a + sign beside it, click the + sign to expand to see the drive listed. Right Click on the Drive and click Propeerties. Properties will tell you if the drive is working properly. You can also Update the Driver when you right click on it or you can do it from the Driver Tab in Properties. If all is well your problem might be you are trying to read a bootleg DvD or CD that someone created for you. Drives sometimes have a hard time reading media that was not store bought. If that's the case try a CD or DvD that you purchased from a store and see if it reads it.

My DVD drive won't read

Hi well a DVD doesn't really have drivers etc, so usually if they will NOT read etc, quite simply they will be faulty, they are VERY inexpensive so the best best is to obtain a new one, they are all the same etc, just try to get an exact match, but as stated, any compatible device will do, and replace it, this should fix it OK. The only real way to tell anyway is by substitution.

I have a Compaq laptop with a Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560 ATA Device. It will not read a DVD. I get code 19 error. I uninstalled this device. re booted computor. Upon rebooting it tried to reinstall device...

If your CD/DVD Drive is missing under My Computer, try the following:

1. Click Start > then type regedit then press enter
2. Double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Double click on SYSTEM
4. Double click on CurrentControlSet
5. Double click on Control
6. Double click on Class and look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and click on it.
7. On the right side, look for the keys Upper Filter and/or Lower Filter
8. Right click on it, delete it and reboot

Microsoft created this fix when they found out that it's beginning to be a known issue. If this won't work for you, your CD/DVD drive's read lens must have worn out already and you need to replace your ODD.

Good luck.

Dvd player won't play disc

The DVD read head may need to be cleaned. Sometimes perfectly OK drives also fail to read certain discs. If the problem is persistent, i.e. the notebook won't read any discs, then clean the head (with a head cleaner) and try again. If it starts working, fine.. If not, then you may have to replace the DVD drive. If the problem is only related to playing one particular DVD, then its the DVD that is faulty.
Hope this helps.

I have just purchased an HP Desktop computer and when I burn a Cd for music, everyting seems to work ok but when I try to play that CD on another player in my home, it won't play. Is there a setting...

Check the type of the blank CD/DVD you are using. Certain players won't be able to play CD-RW for instance.

If that doesn't solve the problem you might try to slow down your burn speed for a better quality CD/DVD. Sometimes a faster burn speed will lower the quality and other devices can have trouble reading these.

I have a issues with LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163 ATA DEVICE and i bought call of duty 4 modern warefare and I installed it and now it won't let me play single version at all since it don't show up in...

well if another Disc works (try a movie or something) it means that the disc itself is damaged. Now I'm betting that the other disc dont work eighter, This is because the rom has reached its life span. Replacing the rom is the solution to your problem.
