I was playing some music pretty loud today on my Sony STR-DB790 and then no bang no crackling just strait to protect mode turned stereo off thinking nothing of it and now every time I turn it on strait to...

There is an output load causing the protect to engage, turn unit off and dis-connect the speaker wires from the back of the receiver, this will reset the processor ic. Now power on and turn volume right down, if the word protect stays off it means there is a short in the wires or one or more of the speakers. But if the word protect comes on with the "speakers and wires dis-connected" it indicates a short in one or more audio output ic's and will need a tech to address the extent of damage and cost.

Car Power Amp not truning on for 60 to 120 seconds in cold weaher

could be internal problem with the amp, but there is a possibility it is something else. Are there other amps in your car? Do they turn on quickly? If this is the only amp, try the following:
- disconnect turn-on lead from amp (blue wire?)
- turn on stereo (volume normal or low)
- use small piece of wire to connect 12V terminal to turn-on terminal.
you can just touch the wire to the terminals - paper clip will work, too.
- if the amp still takes forever to power up, then the problem is internal to the amp.
- if the amp powers up right away, the problem could be in the turn-on output from your head unit. You can resolve this by using a relay, or by using the ACC output from the ignition (red wire at radio wiring harness) to turn on the amp.

My 2005 Accord's radio / CD player will not produce sound to the speakers, the display panel works fine. Sometimes a loud static sound will come from the speakers with no volume control, powering off gets...

The sound chip may have gone in the stereo, especially if someone has had it on very loud they sometimes blow, otherwise you have 2 speaker wires touching each other, that way you only get static noise, insidee the door they sometimes come free and touch the body

Check all your speaker wires first.

Power cuts off after 2 seconds after stereo start button is pressed

Disconnect your speaker wire's from your receiver, and then turn the receiver on.

If your receiver cuts off with the speakers disconnected, there is something wrong with your receiver, and take your Sherwood receiver to a qualified reputable technician.

If your receiver stays on with the speakers disconnected, their is a short circuit either in your speakers wires, or in your speakers. Make sure your speaker wires are pushed all the way in the speaker terminals in the back of the receiver, and do not leave no naked speaker wires exposed. If you have too long of bare speaker wires exposed at the receiver's speaker terminal, or at the speaker's terminals, they could touch each other, and cause the receiver to cut off. If the speaker wires are OK, then you may have a short circuit in your speakers.

Stereo cutting off when volume is over 29

Twenty nine sounds pretty loud to me. A shorted voice coil in any one of your speakers will drop its resistance value so if the amplifier thinks its feeding a short circuit, will "protect" itself by shutting off. Check wiring carefully and each speaker at a little lower volume for sounds of distortion ie: shorted voice coils...

I have a jvc home stereo model number CA-HXC6 i have had it for a few years its on protect mode and i cant get it off dont know how it cuts off

Turn off power, unplugg unit, very carefully check speaker wire connections making sure no wires are touching each other or the back of the unit same at speakers connections. Also check speakers. Blown drivers can short terminals internally. This is the most likely problem. Remove the short, unit will come back on
