How to set decimal tab - Swintec 7040

We don't use our typewriter very much anymore and when I do it is when I am on a tight schedule typing up a bid package that I need the decimal tab for.

No one can remember how to set this - can you help?

How do I increase the margins on the typewriter

To set a margin beyond the left or right margin, move the carrier (or cursor) to that margin, press the Margin Release key, then proceed to move the carrier (or cursor) to the desired position. Then, press the Left or Right margin key to set the new margin. A beep will sound indicating the new margin has been set. When you set a new left or right margin, the previous margin is automatically cleared.

Alternatively, you can type beyond the right margin by pressing the Margin Release key and then continue typing when the carrier (or cursor) stops at the right margin. To type beyond the left margin, press the Margin Release key and then the Backspace key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the position where you want to start typing.

Remember to always use genuine Swintec ribbons and lift-off tapes for your Swintec 7040, which can be found at Swintec Typewriter Supplies .

How can I set a right hand tab

I assume you are talking about Flush Right Tabulation.

To set a flush right tab:
(1) Position the carrier (or cursor) at the point where you want a flush right tab to be set.
(2) Hold down the Tab set/clear key and press the 2 key.

To clear a flush right tab:
(1) Press the Tab/back tab key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the flush right tab position.
(2) Hold down the Code key and press the Tab set/clear key.

To use a flush right tab:
(1) Press the Tab/back tab key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the flush right tab position.
(2) Type the text. Characters will appear on the display as they are typed. Corrections can be made on the display before the text is printed.
(3) Press the Print key. The text is printed aligned with the flush right tab position.

The Swintec 7040 typewriter goes a few inches to the right and stops. How do I unlock?

My best guess is that you have the R. margin set there. Go to the stopping point, press but don't hold the MAR REL key, spce to desired location, press R. mar key.
