Most routers can be configured either using a USB cable, or the Ethernet cable (RJ45 terminated with square shaped connector).
Check the kit instructions, and find out if there is a procedure to do setup using the ethernet cable.
If instead you have to connect USB cable to the wifi transmitter, and transmitted is attached to the router, you need to connect a laptop to the transmitter to configure the transmitter, and then configure the PC to control the kit.
If that does not work, regarding the Road Runner kit, I could not locate the model, maybe more info on model number and manufacturer of the kit can help (eg seller URL, or manufacturer web address from instructions). Try giving me kit and router info if the above does not work.
