All Bosch dishwashers are cold fill only.

I have had a bosch sms 4012 for many years and it's been hot water filled from my gas hot water system in an attemp to save electricity costs.
Is this a problem? will it cause any long term problems?

Yes. The cold feed is essential for condensation drying to work properly, and there is no need to pay for hot water to be used for the initial pre-rinsing cycle.

Like all similar devices, by having a hot water fill in practice all that happens is the machine drains the water already in the supply pipework which is cooling down or even stone cold, and allows it to be uselessly replaced in the pipe by water you have paid to heat up. Modern machines use far less water than in the past, and with Bosch and many others once the machine has heated the cold supply water it uses very little energy to keep it hot. Most machines also incorporate heat exchangers, so if more heated water is required it's pre-heated by the dirty water as the latter gets drained.

In most cases, using a hot supply to a dishwasher (and to many modern washing machines) is flawed logic and will actually cost you more money. Even if you have free heating from solar panels, the hot water fill remains wasteful unless you have a huge supply of free hot water and can reduce the machines drying cycle efficiency..

Most dishwasher should be hooked up to a hot water line. They do recommend that you run hot water in your sink before you start running your dishwasher.

Installation of a dishwasher

Are you sure it actually has hot water supply as well as cold?

The majority of dishwashers have only cold water supply, and heat their own water when needed.

The dishwasher will heat the water it needs. You do not have to supply hot water to it.

Just got a new Bosch dishwasher (forget which model). After the dishwashing cycle has ended (even long after), the dishwasher and dishes are still wet. Was this an installation problem? Thanks

Hi -
I can't see how any installation problem would cause this - if the dishes are still wet at the end of the cycle, you'll probably find the water isn't heating during the wash cycle. The dishwasher uses steam to heat the washing compartment and dry the dishes. It would appear that the dishwasher isn't heating water internally.
Even if the washer was accidentally connected to the cold water supply ** (see note), this shouldn't happen as regardless of the water supply temperature, the washer should still heat the water to the correct temperature internally.
** UK dishwashers should be connected to the cold water supply. For US installations, dishwashers are commonly connected to the hot water supply. For other locations, please consult your installation instructions.
I suggest you start a regular wash cycle and leave it to run for 10-15 minutes. Then open the door and test the temperature of the water in the base of the washer by hand. The water should be hot and there should be steam present in the washer when you open the door.
If the water is cold or only warm, the water isn't being heated internally or isn't heating to the correct temperature, in which case you should contact the retailer or Bosch Service immediately for a replacement. Do not accept an offer of repair on a brand new washer!
Additionally, do not attempt to repair the dishwasher yourself when under warrantly as this will invalidate the warranty.
Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please let me know your location and the model number of the washer. This should be laser-etched into the top of the door if you can't find it on any of your paperwork.

Water comes into dishwasher cold. why???

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Have you insured the unit is connected to a hot water supply line ? The water will not heat until it start's to circulate and activates the "flow switch" in the Bosch dishwashers.

If it is connected to a hot water supply, try running the hot water at your sink taps before turning on the dishwasher. If you still do not have hot water, check your hot water heater or supply.

If it is indeed connected to a cold water supply it will work, just be prepared for very long wash cycles since the Bosch machines will heat the water at a rate of 2F per minute...it could take a long time to reach 155F.

Let me know what you find out and I'll try to assist you in any manner I can going forward.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Need install guide for bosch dishwasher model smu 2042 uc Need to know if it suppose to hook up to cold or hot water?

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

The dishwasher must be connected to an adequate hot water supply.

Adequate meaning a good strong rate of flow and pressure of hot water.

That should answer your question. Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Good luck.

Bosch dishwasher wont take in water through the cold inlet

First of all, the hot water line should be supplying the dishwasher, not the cold water line. That being said, if the machine is hooked up to cold water line, the only reason why no water is coming in would be that the valve is not open. Look under the sink to see if that is where the dishwasher line is attached to the cold supply. If not there, perhaps in the basement. Open that valve and you should have water.
Finally, if there is no water coming in and you have a lime deposit problem with your water it is possible that the line is full of lime and will have to be changed. good luck with this.

Dishwasher not drying - Bosch Integra SHU9952

Bosch generally drys through evaporation from hot water rinse. There is a common circuit board issue where a cold solder joint on the heater relay pops. The water does not heat sufficient to evaporate any longer. Consult your manual for self diagnosing trouble shooting codes or go to appliance aid.com.
If the board connection is the issue I have repaired several, however Bosch recommends replacement only and sometimes supplies the parts free.
