Kenmore Electric Counter Unit 43421

We have an older unit. Facing the unit, the right back burner is giving us problems. When you turn the dial to any number, 2-8, the burner heats up to maximum heat. My thought is that the Infinite Heat Control Part No. 320944 has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Looks like a simple procedure, just open everything up, pull the bad Heat Control and replace with new one. I would think the Infinite Heat Control is just a thermostat, and that is what the problem is. Any helpful thoughts that you can help with, I would appreciate it. Thanks. PS- We have switched burners, and control kobs, and the problem still exists when turning that burner on. Thanks for the help.

You are right it is the infinate heat control. This has no thermostat. It works by letting the burner cycle on for longer periods of time on the higher settings on high it is on constantly. The contacts are probably fused inside This part shouldn't be more than $25.

How do I plug back in the GE stove top burners after unplugging them?

The two leads from the burner fit into a socket in the stove top. It's a bit tricky to get it in just right. If the three metal "legs" on the burner fit snugly into the three slots on the stovetop you did it right.

I have the Miele km342g cooktop. The ignition would continue firing intermittently after the burner was lit - click, click, click. Drove us crazy for years and we cursed the unit every time we used it. We assumed it was sensing unburned fumes and so we bought a small fan to "whisk" the gas fumes away. etc. etc. I finally figured out what a simple little thing it was. To start the burner, you turn the knob counter-clockwise. Therefore, once the burner is lit it's intuitive to turn the burner down by turning it clockwise. But in order to turn the burner down, you have to continue turning it counter-clockwise - or, "counter-intuitive". Once we figured that out, we haven't had a problem since.

Unit on light stays on when unit is off

You need to check the switches. If no problems with the switches it is in the circuit for the indicator light. This is easy to check and the parts are inexpensive. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html that will walk you thru performing these checks.

Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

Right front burner on high all the time.

Yes, the entire unit must be lifted out - it is probably secured with screws underneath. Then you can remove the screws on the underside of the glass to access the switch. Hope this helps!
