SOURCE: phillips external hard drive

If its an usb drive, no driver is required. The drive will show itself in My Computer after it is commected. Uninstall the driver, shut down, connect the device to the computer and start the computer.Tell me if it works. Also, when posting a question, give full details.

sounds like you are using the wrong power supply. Check the amp output on the power plug you plug into the wall make sure its the same as the amp input of your external harddrive

SOURCE: i have a simpletech pininfarina 500 external

I have found a driver page of simpletech:
http://www.simpletech.com/support/support_downloads.php
I believe that driver for your model is not available in the above link.
The drive would not be recognized when it is not compatible with your notebook hard disk.
I suggest you to contact simpletech for getting the drivers as they will have the hard disk drivers.

Try changing the USB cable that connects the hard disk to the computer, this message usually comes when the cable is damaged.

Hi, I get an error message when I try to connect and install a Maxtor 500 GB external hard drive to my computer. The message reads "the device cannot start (Code 10). Can you assist?

What is the error message you get?

What OS are you using?

Depends on your hard drive, some computer commonly ask for a driver when you plug something in it. might as well try reading the manual of your external hard drive, if it doesn't require a driver, then the problem "might" be in your operating system and/or in your computer.

mrtunink,
Yellow ! simbol show in the usb devices means your usb driver may be corrupt so OS can't recognised the usb devices, u have to reinstall the driver like that way,

At first right click on my computer icon- then select propertices- then "hardware" - then click on devices manager buttons- then select ur devices and right click on it and click propertices then u finds reinstalls button under its propertices click on it and select install software automatically (recomanded) and click on ok. then windows scarch its driver automatically and install it.
