SOURCE: whirlpool refrigerator stop cold but frosting bad

Hello Catherine Fu,
Welcome

You said, you got this whirlpool double door refrigerator for 4 years. cost me about 1.5k. the second year, right after warranty, the main brain is down-the light panel in the refrigerator is off. whirlpool tech told me to replace it will cost me 500, so you decide not to do it. Now you have bad frosting issue for 6 month. Inside the Refrigerator, the water keep on dripping on side wall and glass drawer ceiling. In the freezer, frosting all over each drawer, and the bottom drawer has too many frosting and ice that i can hardly close the door. Last night, the refrigerator section just don't get cold anymore, it shuts up by itself.
Help!! It is an very expensive refrigerator and ONLY 4 years old .

First,I think you need to have a new tech.
It sounds like you have either an air leak allowing out side air in and this causes the icing.
Or you may need some freon (coolant gas) .
If your freon pressure is low it can ice up.
Did that tech that was there check for a freon leak and also check the pressure of the freon in the lines???
You need to call a different tech and let him see what's happening.
Some company that is reliable!

Let me know what they do for you.
God bless, Huuum

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

SOURCE: My Kenmore refrigerator is leaking water from

This sounds like that you might have a defrost drain pluged up. Depending on the model #, You might try this. Unplug the refrigerator. Take the cover located in the back of the freezer. (from the inside) Four or six screws (Depending on model #) and it will come off. If you have an ice maker, you need to take that off first. You will now see the condensor coils (CAUTION fins are VERY sharp). Located in the middle of the bottom under the coils is a hole. This hole is the condensate drain hole. You might try pour hot water down this hole or you can get a steamer and blow steam down said hole. Rember if you pour water down this hole you will have to drain the defrost pan under the refrigerator. To do so gentely grab the side of the kick plate and pull (depending on model # you might have two screws located on each side) On the left side bottom is where the condensate pan is located. Gently pull and dump out the watter and reinstall. Then pour more water down the hole on top and watch the water flow down into the defrost pan. Dump the pan when needed. When the water flows freely, put it all back together and plug it back in and wait 24 hours and see if that fixed it. If not repeat the steps again. Hope this solved your problem.

Defected DEFROST HEATER can cause frost build up on the panel at the back of the freezer, and freezer stop cooling and ice frozen on unit so air could not flow to refrigerator side.Water will coming out caused of unbalanced freezing, and causing the flooding of water in the floor. You must change this defroster heater assembly so it will works normal again..
Heavy Frost on the Coils
This is good! This indicates a defrosting system failure which is a simple control problem. It also means that the sealed system (compressor, evaporator coil, and all associated tubing) is fine as wine in summertime. Defrost system problems are easy fixes that anyone with a pulse can do with maybe just a little help from their friends. The problem will either be the defrost timer (or Adaptive Defrost Control board, if so equipped), the defrost thermostat, or the defrost heater. To locate these parts in your fridge, check out these cool, interactive parts diagrams.

Hope this may help you;

Sometimes a solid ground wire
wrap around the defrost heater and the other end stuck in drain hole has helped for me. Avoid letting the wire or whatever to touch the plastic side of the hole.
