Question about Canon FireStore FSC-HD100 100GB DTE Recorder for XL Series 100 GB Hard Drive

3 Answers

I could down load my dv video easily from my FE DTE 100 for editing and storage onto my older Vista operated computer using a 1394 firewire card. Then I could store the video on my WD Book external hard drive. When I purchased my new computer I had Best Buy install the same firewire card but I cannot get the DTE to download. It shows remaining minutes that get longer and longer until at some point it sends an error message. I have tried to bypass the operation by transferring the video straight from the recorder. However, when I do that, the Sony Vegas editing program crashes when I try to render the file (about 30gb). Can you help me solve this problem

I tried this solution. However, the representative (Dynex) told me that there was no driver for this card as it should be completely compatible with Windows 7. What now?

The implementation of the firewire 1394 driver in Windows 7 is different.

Read this document at the MSWindows 7 site.

Also see if these instructions help with your existing firewire card.

Alternatively check if the firewire card has got a Windows 7 driver from the manufacutures. If this is not possible then buy a firewire card which is Windows 7 compatible.

This almost sounds like an IRQ conflict with the firewire card. You say Best Buy installed it for you? I would take it back to them and tell them the situation you are having and tell them you need it to work, or to have them somehow prove the firewire card is working. I am guessing you are probably running Windows 7 on this new machine, but that shouldn't be a problem since you had it working fine before with Vista..

This is what I recommend you do, it is very complicated to resolve irq conflicts, especially helping over a text based help system, but that is indeed what it sounds like.

You can try moving the firewire card to a different slot on your computer's motherboard (hopefully it has another slot... unless it's a lower end model it definitely should) and that will usually clear it up. But if you are uncomfortable doing this I would definitely take it back to Best Buy and tell them it is not working.

Thanks
Tim

There's an error in the communication between the pc and the firewire card.
Take the card out and run a system cleaner - one like
http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
Then find out the exact model of your card (it's printed on the card) and go to the site of the manufacturer and download the latest driver for it - download as in Save, not Run.
Once the download is complete shut down the pc and install the card. When the pc starts it will be automatically detected - close all the windows that will pop up and launch the downloaded installer.
By the way Sony Vegas crashes because the RAM memory of the pc is too little - for such large files you will need at least 8GB of RAM

In that case the card itself is defective. This i easy to test - just connect the Canon thru the USB connector, it should work even faster.
If you get errors even now then the defect is in the Canon - the hard disk inside it is about to die.

How do you put video from your camcorder to your computer?

With a Canon ZR70MC camcorder, you can record video onto miniDV tape, or onto the SDmemory card in Card Camera mode.

To access video on the miniDV tape, you will use the DV cable (IEEE 1394 aka FireWire). Connecting this cable to your windows computer will allow you to transfer high quality video using the software supplied on the digital video solutions disc, or just about any other windows video editing software.

To access videos stored on the SD memory card, remove the card and place it in a card reader connected to your computer, or attach a usb cord to the camera and the computer. Video stored on the memory card is limited to 10 second clips @ 320x240 resolution.

Connect JVC GR-D240ek to vista laptop

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A firewire to USB will not work. It has to be firewire to firewire. A JVC GR-D240ek uses 4-pin, IEEE 1394 compliant Digital Video Connector [DV OUT] to connect a 1394 cable (also known as a FireWire or i.Link cable) to a laptop equipped with an equivalent IEEE 1394 port. Please note that some laptops firewire port could either be 4 pins or 6 pins.
74dac6f.jpg
Soon as that connection as shown above is established, you can use Windows Import Video to capture / download the videos.

Other notes (from the same Windows Help link above) :
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Movie Maker. After you connect ... your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Movie Maker, turn on your DV camera, put it into playback mode, and Windows Import Video should open automatically.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Photo Gallery. After you connect ...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from Camera or Scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Live Photo Gallery. (This options requires you to install Windows Live on your computer.) After you connect your...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Live Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Live Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from a camera or scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
Verify that the laptop's firewire port is 100% up to specs and totally compliant to IEEE 1394.

God luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Unable to transfer video information onto PC ACER ASPIRE using windows Vista for editing by windows movie maker. Interface on PC is via USB. If software driver for firewire or 1394 interface is available...

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

(Applicable for Vista Operating System Only.)

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer.

Refer this Link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need a 1394 firewire port and suitable software like Corel Videostudio. Then no problems. When no 1394 port thoes pci cards come cheap, $15 or so. Video studio retails about $100 I think, you can download a free limited 30 day trial from Corel. Please uninstaal that demo after 30 days with the same install programm otherwise deep ****.

Unfortunately, it's not exactly a trivial process. The basic steps are as follows:

1) connect the camcorder to the computer
2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer
3) optionally, edit the video file
4) upload the file from the computer to youtube.com

1) the camcorder has 4-pin 1394 (also called firewire or i-link) jack, and the computer (if equipped) either has 6-pin 1394 jack or 4-pin 1394 jack (on some notebooks). if your computer doesn't have a 1394 jack, you need to buy a 1394 adapter (eg. pricegrabber.com)

2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer hard drive using editing software or a software utility designed for doing just that. this software may come with the camcorder or the 1394 adapter.

3) optionally, use editing software to take an excerpt from the file, rearrange parts of the video, add titles, etc., and output a new file

4) upload the file to youtube.com. there are some guides on their website as well (eg. youtube.com)

I hope that helps.

JVC DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA MODEL NO. GR-D370U

Use firewire connection(DV Port) and must use a good quality cable. Sub standard cable lead you to trouble. There's no Vista issue with this camcorder model, only at the software side, JVC website provide a list for those update is needed including upgrade link. I can not post the link this time since that was long time and i need to search for that again. Have search it on JVC site, i will give you an update as well. Good Luck, keep in touch

Vista and firewire 1394?

Firewire works fine under Vista, but it's quite possible your USB to Firewire bridge doesn't have proper Vista drivers. You wouldn't expect Vista to include these, they would be installed from a disc that came with your adaptor. USB to Firewire is a questionable option at best... there are often problems with it. You may be better off with a PC-Card or ExpressCard solution, if the laptop is your only computer.

Also, when the camera says "DV IN", it's expecting video from the PC to be sent to it, it's not in capture mode. Most camcorders must be in either "play" mode, or a special "link to PC" mode in order to even be recognized by Windows (any version) as a video input device.

However, until you resolve the issue of supporting your Firewire device in Vista, nothing the camcorder does will be an issue yet. You should check the documentation that came with your USB to Firewire device, the driver disc, etc. for information on Vista support.

Video down load

if you are using a desktop, you require a an addon card called IEEE 1394 firewire card, which you have to install it on your motherboard's PCI slot, then using the firewire cable which you get along with the card should be connected to the card and DV port of the camera, then using the MOVIE MAKER software of windows XP, you can download the video.

Video, to Computer.

hi, The memory card can only handle still pictures and in some model low quality email clips can be recorded. For video capture the latest camcorders are providing high speed USB 2 transfer. But for older models you need to get it done with the help of firewire card. If you want to capture your video you can either buy a firewire card(can easily purchased from computer accessory shops, low cost) and plugin to pci slot of your PC,else if you have a DV port you can connect to that with a dv cable (which can be purchased from all camera stores). The camcorder is provided with a 1394 port to which you can connect the cable from firewire card. All the best my friend. sreejith Once you are ready with these you can use any of the video editing programs(even you might have got a freeware from JVC) with that you can capture in full DVD quality to PC.
