My printer keeps saying cartridge error but nothing appears wrong with cartridges.

Completethe steps below in the order presented to resolve the problem. It might not benecessary to complete all of the steps. Stepone: Reset the printer Withoutturning the power off, remove the power cord from the back of the printer andfrom the wall socket. Wait 30seconds and reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the wall socket.Turn the unit on if it is not already turned on. Check theprinter for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to thenext step. Steptwo: Clean the cartridge contacts Figure1: Lifting the top cover my printer keeps saying cartridge - clip_image001.gif

  1. Lift the top cover.
  2. Locate the ink cartridge indicated in the error message. Squeeze the gray tab below the cartridge slot to release the latch, then lift the latch. Figure 2: Unlatching cartridge clip_image002.gif

  1. Gather cleaning materials:
    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (do not use tap water or alcohol or platen cleaners)
    • Lint-free cloth or swab. Eyeglass wipes and coffee filters work well.
  2. Lightly moisten the swab and squeeze out excess moisture.
  3. Holding the cartridge by its handle, wipe the copper contacts.

I suggest you run the 'Tap 10' diagnostic test pattern for your HP PS 2600 series printer model...this will display the electrical health of the ink cartridges and confirm that your printer is operational (I am guessing one of the ink cartridge control lines is open).

Make sure you are inserting the correct cartridges for your model. The Lexmark X5470 uses 32 or 34 black cartridge and the 33 or 35 color cartridge.
Try to follow the steps below to identify and fix the problem:
  1. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Check the encoder strip (transparent strip usually found behind the cartridge carrier) and make sure it has not gotten unseated from its position.
  2. Close the cover. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it.
  3. When the printer turns on, check for any errors on the printer display screen. If "alignment problem" error appears, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
  4. If no error appears, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the cover and check for errors.
  5. Reinsert the other cartridge.
  6. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. It may be faulty. You may also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the cartridge you're currently using is defective.
If the problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Just put in a new black cartridge and it wont print anything. Keeps saying alignment problem and prints a bunch of tourquoise designs in stripes. got the alignment note to go away but still nothing on...


It could be that one of your cartridges are not seated well in the carrier or one of your cartridges are faulty or just needs cleaning:
  1. Open the printer cover.
  2. Remove both cartridges from the printer.
  3. Close the printer cover.
  4. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it.
  5. When the printer turns on, re-insert one cartridge first. Close the cover.
  6. Check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, re-insert the other cartridge.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. Or you could also insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT SAYS WRONG CARTRIDGE & NOTHING WILL PRINT. I DIDN'T CHANGE ANY CARTRIDGES AND THEY APPEAR TO HAVE INK IN THEM


I have not had this problem, and that says a lot. I now have 3 of these and I think it has been around ten years I have used them, burned out 3 and got 3 more. These are the most economical printers I know of at $1.69 per cartridge.

My guess is it is a contact problem, the contacts between your print head and the carriage, or it is the printhead itself. I would do what I have posted today regarding printing. The fact that you have ink in your cartridges has nothing to do with this problem, as ink is dry would be the message.

Error message saying incorrect print cartridge.


Check the Electrical contacts on the cartridge itself, they all need to be clean and nice and shiny to work properly. Make sure you haven't overfilled the cartridge too, this can sometimes cause problems. To be honest, the HP cartridges do 'wear out' after a few refills. when they go electrically dead, there is nothing you can do about it apart from buy a new one!

The print cartridges are not moving correctly, the sound "rough" "bumpy" and the error "print cartridge jam" keeps coming up. Nothing appears to be wrong when I look at them... and the print keeps saying...

Before you making any assumptions about whether or not a cartridge is good or bad, always clean the cartridge and carriage electrical contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol.

HP holds the patents on their cartridge technology. They are not about to share their cash-cow with anyone. All non HP branded cartridges are remanufactured unless someone is counterfeiting them in China.

Display Says Wrong Cartridge


I went to the Canon website http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=9035 and typed "Wrong Cartridge" in the search portion for the MP730. It listed detailed instructions to remove all ink cartridges, raise the lever to the right on the carrier, and then remove / reseat the "carrier". After that I replaced all cartridges and printed the alignment page. All is working, now.

Error 1203 cartridge error


There seems to be something wrong with the color cartridge that i had refilled. Even though the place that refills them says theres nothing wrong with it, the printer wont accept it. I just removed it :) thanks!
