Question about Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

Fisher Paykel gwl 11 burning smell on rinse cycle

I was reading your response to a couple of emails, do you really think the motor is bad? The unit will run and spin, its actuating the motor, is there some other part related with the motor that could be causing the problem?

I was impressed with how well the unit cleaned and spin dryed much of the water out of the washed clothes reducing the drying cycle. Is the product really a throw away product pretty much when it breaks? I paid quite a bit for the washer and I am a little bit suprised that this is the second time that it has broke in less than 4 years. First it was the cold water solenoid, now possibly the motor. Is there a better washer out there with a fast spin cycle that would be more reliable.

Thank you,

Louis Carriveau

How do you ascertain if its drain pump or faulty controller board causing a fault 37 on a gw612?

Read the answer in the link below first, but in your case it can also be a faulty or blocked diverter valve. If you are good with a multimeter check the resistance of the pump windings. It should read around 33 ohms. It is not uncommon for the pumps to cook themselves and you can smell and see the burned out motor. I hope this is of some help

Gwl 11 wont rinse or spin

(00000101) Phase 1 - Communications Fault
The Display Module has had difficulty communicating with the Motor Controller.
Primary Source: Display Module.
Action: Turn off at the wall and on again after 5 seconds and try again.
1. Undo 2 screws at the back
Check connections of the 12 way harness for bad contacts,
corrosion etc.
2. Check for moisture in the console area. Dry out if necessary
2. If still faulty, replace the Display Module
3. If still faulty, replace the Motor Controller. If the new Motor
Controller corrects the fault, then refit the original Motor Controller.

I ran the diagnostic on my fisher and paykel gwl 11 and it has a fault code 51. Is that more than just a diverter value?

This is error code 51
51. (00110011) Phase 5 and 6 Eco - Diverter Valve Fault
Primary: The motor controller has registered a drop in water level in the
recirculation phase of the wash cycle, water is being drained instead of recirculated.
Or water has been sprayed onto the Valve from an external source and caused the
solenoid to blow.
Action:
Turn the power off at the machine but leave the power on at the wall, then measure
the voltage across the terminals of the wax actuator, if a reading of 230V is
achieved the motor controller has failed due to the valve and both will need to be
replaced.
Secondary: Check for blockage in the valve itself or a broken hinge mechanism.

My mw512nz started making a burning smell and wouldnt finish the cycle. i think it has stopped at the rinse. it definitly wont spin. i thought maybe its the water pump where the smell is coming from but...

That will be your waterpump, try popping the plastic cover off the coil on it and sniff the coil itself, you will most probably smell abit of the burnt smell you could smell earier. Also try measuring the ohms with a multimeter, should read somewhere around 33ohms give or take 5ohms depending on temperature.

Burning Smell on Fisher and Paykel GW11 on spin and is not getting up to speed on spin cycle. Motor Bad?

Hi just read your posting. In my experience the only part on a Fisher and Paykel top loader machine that creates a burning smell is the pump.Try looking under the machine and you will see a black fan. This is your pump.Check to see if it has corrosion on it with a torch and try smelling it.I am sure you will find it is the pump that is smelling. Please reply for additional help and tell me how you got on with checking the pump.Looking forward to your reply.

During the rinse cycle, our GWL 11 Fisher & Paykel

The problem is in the pump, so it will not pump out, you will need to find another way to empty it, removing the agitator will make the job easier.
When you get the water out the pump can be accessed from underneath, it turns anticlockwise to remove it,.
I would buy a new pump as it is most likely that is all that is wrong with it.
