Question about PC Chips M957G Motherboard

1 Answer

PC Chips M957G MB. Can the 4 rear 4 USB ports easily be replaced?

All 4 of the rear USB ports appear to now be bad on my 3 year old computer. I am forced to use the front USB ports now for everything.

I see where the 4 rear ports are connected to the MB however it does not appear that is a simple fix. Is that small 4 USB port unit just clicked on to the MB (can be replaced) or is it actually part of the MB (can't be replaced)?

Thoughts?

"They" did not suggest to use the front USB's. I did this on my own out of desperation so that my computer would keep working. I bought a 1 to 4 port USB hub to attached to one of the 2 from USB ports, so that I could still plug in all the items I needed to keep all my periphial components working. The computer is only 3 years old and I feel that is rather pathetic that it is becoming worthless. I have had other small problems with it over the years, but really was hoping I could simply install 4 new USB ports in the back, then my computer would be good enough to keep around for a few more years.

If the 4 USB port unit in the back cannot be fixed I guess I'll need to spend probably $700-800 on a new computer.

Any other idea's would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Robb

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

Simple Tech HD failing- takes 4 hours to tranfer 512 MB!?

Not exactly a solution but I have had the same problem with one of these Simple Tech Signature Mini 320's for a while. Real finicky. Will only be recognized on direct connected to MB USB ports and even then with Win 7 or XP I get the "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port." no matter what ports I connect it to. While having this issue on this "main" computer I have previously connected it to some other computer (don't remember which, now) and it connected at 2.0 speed. What's going on??

SATA HDD not connected ?

I had to jumper the drive to slow it down. Then it does not show on the first cmos screen with the dvd drive, but the system does show it in the boot order and does find it.

MB ports no longer working

Does the probem persist even if you disconnect the USB headphone? If it does, then it points to problems somewhere else in your system. If it does not, then it's very likely that the USB headphone itself is the cause.

USB headphones aren't like headphones that you just plug into your soundcard. USB headphones has their own "soundcard" that's built into the device itself. Thus USB headphones will work regardless of whether or not you had another soundcard installed. This is usually USB headphone's benefit, not being dependent on other soundcards and having its own discreet settings.

In your case though, it's also likely that the USB headphone's driver itself is causing conflicts with other parts of the system. If this is the case, it would explain why your system is freezing.

As far as the longevity of the motherboard itself... these days computer chips are producing so much heat, it's very likely that motherboards/CPU/memorhy do not last longer than 3~5 years. The parts simply break down much faster than they used to.
