Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I just installed a new 3eBK cartridge and experienced some minor printing problems. Initially the print pattern showed a blank space approx. 2mm wide throught the middle of the print pattern. That was yesterday. Today, the 3eBK cartridge is putting no ink on the paper. The print pattern shows all cartridges are printing normal except there is no 3eBK pattern printed! I have confirmed the new cartridge is not dry.
What can I do to get my black ink printing again?
If you haven't done so, I would try another new cartridge. It is entirely possible (and occurs frequently) that you got a bad cartridge. Assuming you removed the tape from the cartridge before putting it in, this is generally indicative of either a bad cartridge, bad print head, or that heads or ink tanks may need cleaning.
The Canon support page for this printer is at:
However, as Canon pages come up as generic pages (without the text I input for you), you will have to type in "missing black ink" (without quotes), to see the material they have posted in this regard. You will find instructions there in regard to how to clean the print heads, etc., if that is necessary. However, I would definitely try another cartridge first, especially if you haven't had that much use on the printer, such that you think these other measures may be necessary.

My MP780 is about 2.5 yrs old and has not been heavily used. I got a message saying 3 ink tanks were empty, including 3eBK (the other 2 tanks had been replaced a few weeks ago). After inserting 3 new tanks, the result was that the first few lines would come out OK and the following lines would get weaker and weaker. I emailed Canon and got some advice, including "deep cleaning" (if that is not the same as the "cleaning" on the menu, how do you do it?). The advice failed to help. When I reported this, I was advised either to go to an Authorized Service Facility, or to buy a new unit (at a discount). This seemed absurd, so I went on line and found, on fixya, advice to simply try a new tank. I put back the old 3eBK and now the printer works fine! Thank you fixya!
