Question about Canon FAX-L1000 Plain Paper Laser

1 Answer

Comm error I am regularly getting the "Comm Error" message when receiving faxes. Although occasionally the fax does receive, it is the exception rather than the rule. I have checked the set-up and re-set it several times, but there is no improvement. I have swapped the m/c with another fax (a FAX-B160) which works perfectly, again with no improvement. Any suggestions?

Could be down to the line, had a similar issue which I believed to be hardware related, so got supplier to send a new fax out, spoke to someone at canon who said is def hardware related, any yet it turned out to be rabbits outside chewed through a cable (was in scotland..) so was a BT issue.

ECM error message

Noise in the phone line, or low signal strength during fax transmission can result in fax failures. Noise or poor signal strength can cause a partial or complete loss of fax information during transmission. When Error Correction Mode (ECM) is on, the receiving fax machine checks the fax information for errors during reception. If the receiving fax machine detects an error, the receiving fax requests that the sending fax resend the information. Resending all or part of the information can make transmission times longer, but helps improve the quality of the received fax.
If the phone line quality or signal strength is extremely poor, sending a fax can fail. Turning off ECM can improve the ability of the product to send a fax successfully when the phone line quality is poor. However, the image quality of the received fax might be poor.
If ECM must be off to send faxes successfully, have the telephone service provider check the phone line quality. For an HP Fax, turning off ECM from the control panel does not necessarily mean that fax transmission will not use ECM. Fax products use ECM as follows.
  • All faxes sent in color use ECM.
  • All faxes sent at the highest transmission speed use ECM.
  • The ECM setting affects only sent faxes, not received faxes.
Enabling or disabling Error correction mode (ECM)
  1. On the product control panel, press the Menu button (c01743394.gif ).
  2. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select Basic Fax , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  3. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select ECM Mode , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  4. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select On or Off , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ) to confirm the setting.
  5. Press the Back button (c01496476.gif ) twice to return to the main screen.

Error comm 0001

Generally this error(Error 0001) is observed while receiving Fax. The Error Code arises when sender not using G3 Fax Machine. So it is a communication error.
I think it helps. Let me know.

My fax can receive but is unable to send. Message is COMM ERROR 2

Your machine failed to communicate diring the initial protocol. This is the handshake that tells the receiving fax that you are what you are. IMPORTANT Check that your fax ID is entered in the fax, as some countries require that if it is not present to reject it. This can also be set on any receiving fax to reject junk fax. So Both the TTI and the CSI must be entered in your fax to work.

Brother FAX 8360P comm.error

It could be line noise on the phone.., which allows phones to work ok, but causes problems with faxes. See this document from the brother website concerning comm.error:

Would recommend having the phone company run a line check to make sure the phone line is clean of interference !
