I am having trouble connecting to my wirelerss internet connection. Would the fact that the computer was purchased in Asia but is being used in the US present any problems? The computer does pick up the wireless signal, but does not connect.

Most computers and components are manufactured in Asia, and being in the US would not present any problems.
The problem would be, the computer's wireless card is not configured to the wireless settings in the router.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access and configure your wireless card in your computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have an Asia notebook and it won't connect to

your question lacks sufficient information for anyone to offer you an exact solution. the best I can suggest is that you follow some general troubleshooting steps. make sure your internet service is active, properly connected, your router is powered on, etc. if possible, plug in a different computer to see if it too has the same problems connecting. if so, the issue lies with your service, not the computer. if another computer can get online, then start checking for software issues on the system that has the trouble. to get into addressing how to do that, you'll need to provide more details including which operating system you're using, how you're connecting your computer to the internet service, what kind of service you have and who provides it, what exactly happens when you try to connect, what steps you have already tried to resolve the problem, what the results of those efforts had been, etc.

Just purchased a Toshiba NB505-N500BL netbook. I have ordered a router (it's not here yet)...should be here by 30th. Can I set up internet service without router? So far I cannot log onto the...

Thank you for using FixYa
Congratulations on your recent purchase. In order to get on the internet you have to choose an Internet provider. You say you purchased a router, is it a wireless router, did you purchase it from the internet supplier? If not, the provider will not support the connection. It will take a little more effort to get online. If you have an internet connection, is it cable or is it on the phone line or completely wireless like a 3g or 4g connection? If you have internet to your house then it can be hardwired from the device to your computer with an ethernet wire. It is a port on your computer that looks like a phone jack but slightly larger. There is an ethernet cable that connects the router to the computer, and you IP supplier should be able to help you with all that. Here is a link to find out more about connecting to the Internet. http://www.centerspan.org/tutorial/connect.htm

Can I use the Samsung alias 2 is an Internet modem

    Using Alias 2 as Modem
  1. The Alias 2 can, in fact, be used as an external modem to connect your computer to the Internet. To do this, the phone must plug into the computer via USB. The USB data cable specific for the phone is purchased separately and can be found at most any cellular phone store and eBay. Because USB is a powered connection, anytime the phone is plugged into the computer for use as a modem, it will also remain charging, so you don't have to worry about battery life while online.

In addition to the cable, you must subscribe to a specific service through your cellular provider in order to use the Alias 2 as a modem. This plan will be a "tethering" plan and will have a separate charge each month to use it, similar to a cell phone's data plan. By signing up for this feature, your phone will be able to dial into the data network and utilize the Internet connection as a modem, allowing any connected computer to surf the Internet. Once this feature has been activated on your account the option will become available on the phone itself to enable tethering.

At this point, you should be able to turn on tethering, connect the phone to your computer via USB cable and select the phone on your computer as an Internet connection source.

It is important to note, however, that the Alias 2 uses a different and slightly older system on the 3G cellular network. Because of this, using the phone as an external modem will produce a slightly slower Internet connection than a traditional modem or even a newer phone would. However, as a backup solution for Internet connectivity or a travel solution, the Alias 2 will work just fine as a modem for your computer or laptop.

The only place I could find drivers for this model was...

http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/product/pcg-grt40zp/modelfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i

Thre is limited drivers available from this page, as it is the Asia support pages and the fact the machine is no loonger supported.

What version of Windows is it running? If you have WinXP you could let it find the drivers on the internet, or the long way, is to identify the components that you dont have drivers for then google for them!
