See section A. Skype in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have their computer setup properly.

Web Camera's have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype

http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/

set it up as follows:
Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera, if Installed Properly, it will come up and show a video picture.
Then, on the bottom of the page click save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and hear you.

B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger

http://www.soft32.com/download_30.HTML

set it up as follows:
Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on "Open the call setup assistant" and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

http://download.live.com/Messenger

After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on " "Show Menus." And then click on "Show the Menu Bar".
Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on " "Action."
Go to "TOOLS" and click "Audio and Video Setting" and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

D. AIM (AOL) Messenger:

http://dashboard.aim.com/aim

On the VIM sign-in window click on Edit.
Then click on Settings Enhanced IM.
Next click on Enhanced IM.
Then click on Audio Video.
The Audio and Video portion has drop downs so you can select the proper audio card and video camera installed in you computer.
The Audi Video drop downs are
Microphone
Speaker
Camera
The audio and camera should function now.
Additional information to use with VIM settings.
Adjust Your Audio and Video Settings:
In order to adjust your audio and video settings, please follow the steps given below:
1. Click the Audio and Video Settings button directly below the My Buddy or My Camera window. If you are currently
Participating in an AOL Live Video IM session, a message will display: You must disconnect the current AOL Live Video IM
Conversation before running setup. Would you like to disconnect now? Click the Yes button.
2. The Audio and Video Tuning Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers and microphone are working
Properly. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Notes:
The first time you use AOL Live Video IM, a message will display: Would you like to first check your audio and video settings? Click the Yes button.
The Audio and Video Tuning Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers and microphone are working properly.
Follow the on-screen prompts.
images in AOL Live Video IM may appear reversed, or as a mirror image (text may appear backwards) when you look at your own camera feed or at the
Picture-in-picture (PIP) display.
After making the settings your ready for a chat and video talk with your Family and Friends.
Hope this helps. Bud

Laptop not recognizing device when plugged into laptop how to fix

The computer is not recognizing the device because the appropriate software or driver is not installed on the device.

Most of the time when you connect a smartphone into a compatible laptop the device drivers or software automatically install, so the laptop may recognize the smartphone.

Here are some possibilities as to why the device is not recognized.

1) The USB port is bad.
2) The USB port is not activated
3) One of the devices does not support the other

Here are a few possible troubleshooting solutions:

1) Go to the smartphone manufactures website and download and install the updated device driver and software then plug in the device to see if it is recognized.
2) (if Windows OS) Go to the Device Manager to see if the device is showing up when it's plugged in. If you see the device in device manager right click the device and choose to update the driver.
3) (if Windows OS) Additionally, in device manager you can check your device's USB ports to see if there is an issue with the ports that may be resulting in the smartphone not being recognized. You can choose to re-enable the USB ports or update the software for the USB ports.

Hopes that helps resolve your issues.

Cannot detect my webcam, cannot use the video call and voice call

Not sure I understand the issue here. Your router doesn't actually have anything to do with a webcam. I'm assuming you have a webcam that is plugged in to a PC USB port? If that's the case you need to test the webcam using your Windows software. Some Windows machines will let you use Media Center to "activate" the web cam and play around with it. Other machines might provide a simple application like Youcam, also provided just to basically test the webcam. Once the webcam hardware is tested and confirmed working you will need to install an actual user application like Skype, Yahoo Messenger, etc to actually use the webcam to send your video stream to someone else over the internet.

If you're trying to record videos, say for a training course, some apps won't recognize a usb-connected camera and look for something connected via fire-wire as those are generally considered to be more professional hardware. You would have to check the software's hardware requirements and compatibility list to see if usb-connected webcams can be used.

Finally, some software is poorly written and won't detect all hardware well. You might try plugging in a different webcam (borrow from a friend?) and see if that makes a difference.

I cant find the icon for the webcam on my averatec D1002UHCE-1 Al

You'll survive this one, I daresay.
How's it going as far as the USB plug?  Maybe the power fell out of the USB hub or the webcam and you get to reconnect that as well as the USB connection?  If things aren't perfect then, try going into control panels and seeing if the OS lists the webcam among the A/V devices.

Sometimes USB ports go bad, sometimes the power thing falls out and throws me for a loop, sometimes it's just a virus and you need to stop deferring the antivirus scans and such (or run one; just pick a trusted source, or for example refer to articles etc. at theregister.co.uk or MaximumPC.com)  so your system can heal up and recognize the USB ports the virus was thinking of commandeering.  Sorry about that run-on sentence.

My PC (running Vista) does not see my HP Webcam Deluxe. Why?

Fully, uninstall your drivers from Device Manager...then connect to internet and let the Vista detect the drivers automatically. Normally this is caused by Windows updates.
