From your description I would be certain that the is a faulty fan and it is not cooling the CPU chip properly. When the CPU over heats the CPU shuts down (this is known as a thermal shutdown) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this fault is not fixed then eventually the CPU chip will fail.
Replace the faulty fan to fix this problem.

My sony VAIO laptop keeps making a clicking, rattling like sound and i want to kow how to stop it. It started happening because i left my laptop on a couch for an extended period of time. I read in forums...

sounds like the fan in your laptop is failing or is damaged, when you run graphic intensive applications and the fan turns on is that then you hear the noise if so it is your fan and you should see about getting it replaced because the components in your laptop will over heat and stop working.

Over Heat proplem, first dont place your PS3 over a carpet second dont place near a wall leave a space third and this one ROCKS turn off your PS3 totally OFF no lights ok now keep pressing on the EJECT toutch button and turn it ON from behind it will make a very loud fan noise this will clean and some kind repair the fan an cooling system from the inside. and one more last thing but im not 100% sure but i've been told to place the PS3 over something like a cube find a 4 cubes and place the PS3 over them each one in a corner. have fun

May laptop make noise.

It Is Mostly due to a cooling problem or over working problem, for cooling you should check your fan if it is working correctly, also try to work using your laptop in a cooler place (Thats good for its parts), for over working problem, try not to open it more than 4 continuous hours.

Sony Vaio fan making noise

Hi:
Not sure of a user cause for the fan to run full speed, unless you are using the laptop in a high heat environment, or setting it on a bed or other area where it is not getting adequet cooling air. If it does it right away, when you turn it on , cold, then there might be a laptop hardware problem. If you leave your laptop on all the time, then you might be inducing the problem. I had a HP high performance laptop, that the fans would not turn on at all till it ran an hour or so, then they would stay on loud for 10 or 15 minutes, then shut off, then cycle.

The fan is making a lot of noise. this has

Is the laptop dirty inside?

If it hasn't been cleaned out regularly, with a can of compressed air for computers, more than likely it is.

Laptops typically have a poor cooling design. For one, everything is crammed into a tiny box.
For two, there is a small duct, (Air Intake Duct), that draws air in.
For three, laptops typically just have 1 small fan.
For four, the Air Intake Duct is located on the bottom of a laptop, or on the side.
This is an excellent (?) area to draw foreign debris in. Another word for foreign debris, would be CRUD.

Hair, Food Crumbs, Lint, Dirt, Dust, and so on.

A laptop's cooling systems primary function is to keep the Processor at a certain temperature. If the processor becomes too HOT, it turns off. (BIOS turns it off)
NO Processor, No computer!

1.The excessive fan noise can be that the fan is spinning at top rate, trying to keep the processor cool. It's having a hard time doing that, because the fan cannot draw enough air in. (Clogged Cooling System with Crud)

2.The excessive fan noise could be that the fan's bearings are bad.

3.The excessive fan noise could be that the Processor is running at 100 percent, (100%), and the fan is running at full speed, in order to keep the processor cool.
Perhaps caused by a virus, or some sort of anti-virus program, or running more than one virus program. (Installed a new anti-virus program lately?)

Fan noise somewhere under the Enter button

It is not a good idea to turn off your fan. Your fan is crucial to making sure your CPU stays cool enough so that it will not overheat. It sounds as if your fan may be dirty and needs cleaning, but being a new laptop it should still be under warranty. I would call the support line for the manufacturer and let them look at it and they will replace it if needed. If it is under warranty save yourself the headache of trying to fix it yourself unless you are confident and experienced. Good Luck!
