Question about Gateway MT3422 RTL Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Gateway MT3422 and started have issues with the overall computer functioning upon installing windows 7. I did not like Vista from its inception but tolerated it until windows 7 came out. Since the upgrade the the computer has a delay upon powering off and the screen scrambles before it shuts off. The overall function seems to be the same but not sure if this is preparing to lead to a bigger problem. I was thinking about converting all the way back to Windows XP but wasn't sure how this would make the computer function. Any feedback is welcome. Thank you.

Sure, reverting back to windows xp will surely solve the problem. May be the system requirement is the problem. just convert to windows xp and it will work.

Hi,

Your computer Gateway GM5632e was designed for Windows XP and Vista. You may be successful installing Windows 7 Ultimate on this computer but you will have difficulties finding the right driver for the TV Tuner which was developed and manufactured by Gateway themselves. As always, drivers and sofrwares are limited from the manufacturers release. On the other hand, Windows Vista 64bit has having some issues with its updates. Windows Vista 32bit version can only work if your installer has service pack 1 with it. I suggest, have Windows XP install on your computer as it is stable comparable to the performance of Windows 7. It may not look like Window 7 but surely, Windows XP can still maximize your computer's capability.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply/comment for further assistance. Good Luck!

If you bought a full retail version and not an upgrade, you may need to do a fresh installation of windows. You also need to make certain that your gateway model is able to upgrade to windows 7. Checking your computer's support page, there are no BIOS updates available. Your computer should be fully capable of upgrading to windows 7 from windows Vista. ALso looking at Gateway's support page for this model, there are no drivers offered for Windows 7. All drivers offered are for windows Vista. I have seen computers in the past that will not tolerate an operating system change from the system that was installed at the factory.

If you have a restore partition, you can back up your data, and do a clean install of windows after formatting your hard drive. You may also want to make recovery disks for your computer in case the Win 7 will take on your computer or you cannot get your hardware to work with Win 7 since Gateway offers no Win 7 drivers.
Good luck. Take precautions to back up data and be able to revert to your original factory settings if necessary.

Update to windows 7 on Gateway M-1624 Notebook with vista

You can upgrade to windows 7 from Vista is pretty straight forward. All you have to do is put Windows 7 CD in while running Vista and automatic startup should show you options to choose. There's some trouble with it sometimes for example, you can't upgrade a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version, or upgrade from a higher edition of Windows, such as Windows Vista Ultimate, to a lower edition, such asWindows 7 Home Premium. If this is the case, you'll need to use the Custom option during installation. Please remember that while Upgrading will keep all of your files and programs, custom installation will NOT. So you would need to back everything up before you start. Before you install Windows 7 make sure that all of programs that you need will work on it. For more information visit this microsoft website dedicated to upgrading to windows 7 >> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7 Have a nice day and good luck.

Bad motherboard.  A new one is about $300 but it eventually will fail again as I am currently researching this issue and seeing many complaints of this nature.  People have replaced the motherboard many times and came across the same issue.  I am working in one for a friend am going to recommend he junk it.
