Tecra 8000 won't recognize battery

That's the problem. One day working fine, battery charging, next day can't
find battery. Thought it was battery, replaced with new battery. Charge light may stay on 2 minutes, but then go off, and little box that shows battery charge says N/A.

It's dead without the power cord.

  • jmoo369 May 27, 2008

That computer is so old there's no warranty.
And are you talking about asking Toshiba for technical support?

  • jmoo369 May 27, 2008

So far I've tried all except replacing the cables. I really was hoping to find an answer here. I had done all this before I asked the question.

  • jmoo369 May 27, 2008

Wrong choice of words. Not replacing. Checking.

  • jmoo369 May 27, 2008

I think I've reached the point at which I need an actual person to look at this problem. I may just leave it as it is. I can get by with the power cord. Just a problem if the plug gets kicked in the middle of a job.

But thank all you guys for helping.

Most likely a fault in the battery connector or on the mainboard.

Check the connector pins on the laptop

You could try twisting the power pins a little bit, only a little so the battery goes in still, so the connection isn't loose. This might be tricky as if you twist it too much the connector wont fit anymore.

  • Ekse May 27, 2008

so you have tryed another battery, so the fault isn't in the batterys its either on the power connector or somewhere else on the motherboard.

  • Ekse May 27, 2008

what cables where you thinking about replaceing?

  • Ekse May 27, 2008

The only solution for this is the power connector, if its something else thats wrong, It might not be worth the money.

would need to diagnose and test the motherboard very carefully to find the fault, easyer to replace the mainboard but that cots..

you need to replace the connector if the fault is in it..........better
go for warranty if you have because repairing by own may void
warranty............if you dont have warranty .......ask the technical

Hello. At first, the indicator light that shows whether the battery is loading/getting empty etc. failed. As I thought it wasn`t important I continued using the laptop. Then the battery loading adapter...

Most probably this is caused by the battery charging circuit inside your laptop. It looks like it is not charging the battery. If this is the case you won't be able to fix it yourself. You and should send it for repair.

How do I switch from battery to power on my Toshiba Tecra 8000?

Mama,
You do not have to switch from the battery to power as long as the powwr adapter is plugged intp the wall socket and the laptop. When the battery goes low it starts charging while running the laptop and when not charging it runs the laptop alone. I hope that relieves you of your worries?

My toshiba tecra 8000 will not power on

What you need to do to test this is the following:

1 - Check if its the battery : Remove the battery, plug in the laptop and try to power on the machine, if it powers on then your battery is dead and the system board is fine

2 - With the batter in and the laptop plugged in you should get a charging LED light up somewhere on the laptop, if you do not then the board is most likley gone.

If removing the battery and plugging the laptop in still fails to start the board of spin the fans and you hear no beeps, then the board is gone.

Hope this helps

When using ac adapter to my Tecra 8000 the power light is yellow

Try a new battery and if the new battery wont charge then its either going to be a bad ac adaptor or a bad motherboad. If the new battery charges then you'll know that the old battery went bad.

Toshiba Tecra 8000 keeps switching itself off.

I'd suggest removing the battery. Most laptops can run directly off the AC adapter. If it will boot up OK without the bad battery, you can either leave it like that, or buy a new battery.

If it won't boot, then you have problems other than the battery.

You can get a bus card that has an ethernet port to hook up via ethernet cable, or a universal wireless card for the bus port or usb port. You can find either of these at Walmart or Bestbuy.
