Is your iMac a G5(like what shows in this problem) or an Intel Based Imac? The reason for my asking is Imac G5 or any model that came before it (also called the PPC or power pc) can not run Windows natively thus, you will be getting errors. You can only run windows with a PC emulator. Only Intel based Macs can run windows with dual boot.

Please do get back so we can help you solve your problem.

    It this with boot camp?

I am sorry for the questions. I need to know the details so I can give you the best solution.

The reason this message appears is that Windows doesn't recognize the file system on the partion where you installed Windows. You have to format the the Boot Camp partition using the windows installer.

Please refer to page 25 of this manual on how to format the boot camp partition.

    In addition:

You will have a fifth choice which says something like: "Leave the partion as it is" DO NOT CHOOSE THIS OPTION.

    You
have to format the partion to either FAT32 or NTFS. If you choose
FAT32, you will be able to both read and write to the partion. If you
choose NTFS, you will only be able to read the partion.

Put in disc 1 of Mac OS, then go to Disk Startup (top left) and select Mac OS.

When you partition, don't forget to format that partition and you should be ok to install windows on it.
Good luck.

Simply formatting the hard drive does not remove all residual traces of the previous installation. When you get to the step for formatting, go to the advanced button and delete the partition that contained windows 8. Then create a new partition in the space, format, and install windows 7.

If you want both OS you need to do a partition on the HD to proceed.IThat what i can figure from your quest. But if you just want XP just do a clean installation of it.

Perform a clean install of Windows XPA clean installation consists of removing all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format you hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:313348  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348/ ) How to partition and format a hard disk by using Windows XP Setup programTo perform a clean installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
  2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  3. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  5. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.
If you have successfully installed Windows XP, you are finished. If these steps did not help you install Windows XP, go to the "Next Steps" section.

Used bootcamp and tryed to install windows and got disc error ,now wont go back to normal statas. how do i fix?

Insert the Mac OS disk in the drive and reboot while holding down the C key. This will launch your computer in Mac OS and then you can access Disk Utility from the startup window.
Rebuild/ repair as needed, then I suggest removing any partition that you may have set up and re partition your drive for the windows stuff. Give yourself ample room on the harddrive for your windows software and files.
Be sure to print out a copy of the instructions for bootcamp before you launch... also be sure to allow it to automatically set up your mac for windows. Do this:
1.set up a partition according to the directions for bootcamp
2. install windows as per bootcamp instructions
3. after it's launched in windows, insert the Mac OS disk and it will launch all the setup for your mac hardware to run windows... modem, wifi, all that mojive that you usually need to spend hours in PC land ..mac will set it up for you.. Also download a copy of Bonjour from the Apple site. this will set up your printers for use in windows very easily and quickly..
The main thing is follow the directions and let the computer do all the setup...

I am trying to restore the original software on my computer and I have the discs. When I put the first disc in ''Symantec Ghost'' error comes up and it won't do anything. Any help what to do?

You need to format your drive first. Back up all your documents and then follow the instructions belowl.
nsert the bootable Windows XP installation disc and restart your computer. When you see the message “Press any key to boot from the CD,” press a key to do so.
A blue screen will show up, and the setup program will now load all the required files. This can take a while, so don’t panic; be patient. Press the enter key when you see a message “Press Enter to set up Windows XP.
Now your screen will show all the partitions available on your hard disk. Select the partition where you wish to install Windows XP. Press the D key, and then press the L key to confirm the deletion. Repeat the process for all the partitions that you wish to format/delete.
Now you’ll see “Un-partitioned Space” in place of the list of the partitions. Select this box, and press C key to create a new partition. Now, select the size for the new partition. You’ll now go to the screen that will read something like this: “C: Partition 1.” Select the partition and press the enter key; on the next screen, select the file system to be used to format the drive. You may choose either NTFS or FAT32 file system. Formatting will now begin.
You may need to wait for some minutes as it takes time to format the hard drive. The time required to format the hard drive depends on the processor speed and the size of the hard drive. Once the format procedure is complete, a new screen will show up that will guide you through the installation of Windows XP.
Good luck

How to install window XP on CQ40 laptop .

check your boot setting first in the cmos/bios of your laptop, look for the boot order from there choose your cd/dvd rom as your first boot device then the hard drive 2nd, you will need to this because in order for you to install xp, when you are done save the setting that you have made then restart the machine, insert your windows installation disc, it will prompt you to press any key to boot from the cd rom, from it will check you system config, then just follow the instruction given to you by the installation process read it carefully then it will be easy as 123, windows will guide you thru the installation process and will ask you for the lincense key, just make sure that you use a genuine copy of window if not you wont be able to register your o.s and you wont get the updates from windows

You have probably formatted the hard drive when trying to install XP, XP is not compatible with Mac hardware. You will need to purchase a copy of the Mac OS or try and locate the restore disks that should have come with your computer.

Problem with PC bios not booting

If you are Windows XP bootable CD with u,

first u restart ur computer and change the boot priority in the BIOS setup . Then insert the bootable cd and restart computer.

When some message comes in the screen, regarding bootable cd, press any key for installation,

It will take some time to copy installation files, then configure computer hard disk.

Then u have to agree the continuation of installation by pressing F8.
It will ask u either to repair or install Windows
press appropriate keys for that.
It will show the disk partitions and lets u with options of creating ,deleting paritions .
if u want a partition, then select any large partition and press C and type the amount of memory(in MegaBytes) u want for the partition
After finishing creating partitions,
select any partition and press enter for Windows installation in that partition. and select "format and install" option . It will format that partition and restarts . there is nothing to do more .
After restarting , it takes about 40min to install(times inversly proportional to the processor configuration), it asks for the serial /product key fo ur windows bootable cd, and some general settings about time, time zone, username, passwords etc.
After that , Windows would get completely installed.
Then insert ur motherboard CD for installing driver for (audio, graphics,LAN etc)

Then ur system is ready with Windows.
Ask me if u have any difficulty while installing...

When i turn it on it's saying there's no such file directory. It's a dual core processor I tried to switch it from Os9 to Os10 and now it's got a black screen with this on it

Try starting from CD and check hard drive. Sounds like you installed something that may have corrupted something on your hard drive.

You can't insert a Hard drive from another PC because when it was installed on the old PC it was setup to work with the hardware for that particular computer.

You will need to reinstall a fresh copy of windows on it to make it work with the new PC it's in.Boot from CD run windows setup, format the drive then do a fresh install.

This should fix the problem, if you have any new info or need further help with any of that post back. Thank you for choosing Fixya!
